Harry knew Evee had to work the whole day but couldn't help and be nervous. What if she surprised him at his home? What if she got off early or they called her in the morning that she didn't have to work at all? He knew today was probably one of the most important days of his life. He was going to pick an engagement ring for his future wife. He couldn't ignore his sweaty palms, he had been rubbing them over his pants for the last hour.
This ring would be so important. It would be in all the newspapers, they would analyze it but more importantly Evee had to like it. He knew her style, he knew her flaws. He had a ring envisioned in his mind.
When he finally saw a man in a tuxedo, carrying a big black suitcase in front of his door with three security men, he had to swallow. "Are they here yet?" He heard his sister in law shout from the living room.
"They're here." He took a deep breath and opened the door. "Mister Collins, it's a pleasure to see you."
The grey haired man bowed his head, "Your Royal Highness, I am very fortunate that we could meet under these circumstances."
Harry couldn't help but smile as he stepped aside, letting the four men into his home, "It had to happen one day."
"We are very honored that the tradition of house Garrard will be continued in the family."
The prince nodded his head, "I wouldn't have it any other way. It was my mother's favourite after all." He closed the door behind them, instigated that they could follow him into the dining room. "You've probably met my sister in law, Catherine."
"Your Royal Highness, it's a pleasure to see you once again." The older man carefuly eyed the ring that the public had named the Commoner's Saphire on the duchess her finger. "The ring looks remarkable on you."
"Thank you, mister Collins." Kate smiled, carefuly touching her own engagement ring.
"And this is Chloe Jameson, my future fiancée's best friend. They're both here to help me out a little bit." Harry smiled, ignoring the empty feeling in his gut. If his mother was still alive, she would have been here. He knew she would have. She would have loved this.
"Nice to meet you, Miss Jameson." Kate giggled at Chloe's facial expression. She knew the girl was too excited and honored at the same time. It was the first time Chloe was in Nottingham Cottage and already she was picking out the engagement ring for a prince. The fact that that prince was actually going to propose to her best friend kept her up for days. There would be a royal wedding. She would be in it. Eveline was going to marry a god damn prince.
Her rascal, good hearted friend would be a duchess.
Chloe had always envisioned Evee marrying a rockstar. Not a prince.
But god, she was excited.
"Let's get to it, shall we?" The friendly man spoke, carefully placing the suitcase on the dining table. Harry placed himself next to mister Collins, Kate and Chloe on either side of them.
Chloe's eyes nearly bulged out of her head when she saw the diamonds inside. She had never seen anything so beautiful. "Are we thinking custom made, sir?"
Harry immediately nodded his head, "Yes, I have something envisioned in my head. I want something that fits her. Something sweet but still fun and quirky."
Kate didn't really understand how a ring could be quirky but didn't interrupt Harry, he seemed too invested in the rings and diamonds that she didn't have the heart to even slightly giggle at him. She knew how important this was. She watched how Chloe took a big gulp of her wine and had to hold back a smile, she could see how this was one of Evee's close friends. Even though they probably would never admit it, the two were quite alike with their antics.
