*Author's Note*

Hi you guys! I just wanted to thank you so much for helping me hit 500 reads! I am writing this while listening to sad songs so if I accidentally put any random words in here please let me know so I can fix it.

*Alya's POV*

Sydney was walking towards me. As she got closer I saw her wiping tears off of her cheeks. I ran to her, I needed to know what she was going to say.

"They can't go through with the transplant," she sobbed. I couldn't believe it. My last shred of hope. Destroyed. I didn't know what she was going to say next, and I braced myself.

"He's awake." The word seemed to turn the world upside down. I needed to see him, I had waited long enough for this moment, I've waited long enough to see that sparkle in his eyes. Sydney and I rushed back down to his room. She had insisted I go first, even though she hadn't seen him yet either. My hand was on the doorknob. I took a deep breath as I opened the door. He hadn't noticed that I'd walked in, and he kept talking to his doctor, who eventually left. I stared at Miles, waiting for him to notice me.

"So, you're awake?" I asked, walking over to his bed. He sat up, looking surprised to see me.

"Alya-" I cut him off. Wrapping my arms around his shoulders, he was still here, and that was enough for now. When we let go, he moved to the side and gestured to the empty space next to him. I climbed up into the bed, careful not to disrupt his position. He reached for my hand, and I gladly let him take it. Neither of us broke the silence, I put my head on my head on his shoulder. We could have stayed like that forever, put we we moved apart when Sydney walked in.

"Your father is trying his best to get a flight, he wishes he could be here," Sydney said, opening the door just enough for Miles to see her, then closing it again.

"So are we going to pretend that you never told me that you loved me?" He asked innocently. How had he possibly heard that? I didn't know what to say.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," I responded, looking up at him. He looked back down at me, smiling.

"Alya," He prodded. I still didn't know how he had heard me say that, but in a way, I was glad he did.

"I might have said something like that," I suggested playfully.

"I heard it. Every word," he explained. "I don't know how it works, but when you're out like that, you're still there, if that makes any sense," he continued.

"I said it," I admitted.

"Well, I know that we've only been together like this, for only a day," he started. "But with all this, I've done some thinking. And I love you too, Alya."

Did he actually just say that? About me? Before I could think, I felt his lips crash down on mine. Time seemed to stop. In that moment, neither of us cared about Miles' health, of the fact that we could easily be interrupted any second. All I felt was the softness of his lips and the beating of our hearts, perfectly in sync. He held me close to him, tangling his fingers in my hair. We broke apart awkwardly at the sound of the door opening.

Sydney had appeared in the doorway again. A part of me was relieved that it wasn't a nurse or anything like that, while another part of me was a bit embarrassed. She came to stand beside the bed, looking at us the whole time.

"I see you're feeling better," Sydney laughed. I was very relieved to have that reaction from her. He was her only child after all.

*Miles' POV*

Alya was blushing, she shot me a look that asked, "Do you think she knows?" Of course she did.

"I'm feeling much better,"I told my mom. She shook her head, smiling to herself.

"I can tell,"she said, gesturing to Alya and I. Alya's cheeks were bright red.

"I think you two could use some privacy," my mom suggested. She turned around to wink at me as she left.

*Alya's POV*

Some time after Sydney left, we fell asleep. I was sleeping much more peacefully now than I was earlier. Wrapped in his arms, I had never known a feeling like that.
