"Rudy?"
"Yeah?"
"I was wondering if you could help out at the Bakery for a bit, I'll pay you it's just one of my employees called out today, last minute and my extra hands coming in late so -"
"Yeah sure thing."
"Really?!"
I nodded, putting in a fake smiles as I tied my shoes.
"Yeah, if you need the help, I'll help out, plus I need a break."
"Break from what?"
"Peaches."
My aunt nodded while smiling.
"I understand."
She said opening the door allowing me to walk out before her.
"So where exactly is this place?"
I said sliding into the car.
"Jeez I forgot about the "showing you around town." Well we can do a quick drive by if that's okay, okay so over hear is the hardware store, and thats the market, then that's the pillow palace-"
"Pillow palace?"
"It's basically a mattress warehouse, then there's the white Lily."
"White lily?"
"It's the towns go to hangout and entertainment station, it's a pub and grill."
"Oh."
"Yeah, well here we are, Baines Bakery the only place in this town you can get a scone the way you want it a good old cup of freshly brewed Joe."
I nodded trying to seem interested.
"Cool."
"Okay, well we better get started"
Walking in turning on the lights she immediately got to work on stocking the case full of devious goods and making at least four different types of coffee, what I did was put down the chairs, clean the tables, lay out napkins, restock the cream cheese and the butter.
"Hey Rudy can you flip that sign over for me."
I nodded standing up from a chair walking over and flipping the sign over from closed to open. I walked behind the counter.
"What to do now?"
"I've got the front covered, but I need you to unpack the stuff in the back."
"Oh, okay."
She went to serving the first Customer of the day while I walked back into the pantry seeing a box cutter on a half opened box and many more boxes backing that one.
"Today's gonna be a long day."It took little over an hour to un box and place all the stuff on the shelves, in the right places. Standing up, stretching my legs I started taking the empty boxes out back to the dumpster.
"Ugh."
"You need help?"
I screeched in shock, someone was watching me. Turning around, using the cardboard box as protection my body stiffened.
"Uh."
"Here."
The boy who didn't look any older than I was walked over, bookback slung over his shoulder. He was much taller so opening the dumpster was no problem.
"T-thanks."
He chuckled.
"Are you okay?"
I nodded.
"Mhm."
He chuckled.
"Come on, stiff loosen up."
"Don't call me stiff."
"Well I mean loosen up, you are acting as if I'm holding you at gunpoint demanding you give me your wallet."
"Well how am I suppose to act, huh I don't know you, you don't know me. We're strangers and when a stranger walks up to you, you don't just walk up to them, hugging and talking to them. You don't talk to strangers I know I don't, Do you."
"No."
"Exactly, but thanks for helping me out, I really appreciate it."
Turning around, having on foot in the door.
He smirked.
"The names Michael."
I froze.
"Rudy."
"Rudy that's an interesting name, is it short for something."
"Mhm."
"What's it short for?"
"My name."
"Come on, I'm trying to get to know you -."
Turning around I looked at him.
"Now why would you wanna do that?"
He smirked.
"See you around stiff."
"You didn't answer my question."
He walked down the alley, hands in pockets laughing to himself.
"Rudy?"
Walking inside shutting the door behind me I walked back seeing my aunt.
"Sorry I was throwing the boxes away."
She nodded.
"Well Rudy meet Flan, Flan this is my niece Rudy she's filling in for Mitch."
"Hi."
"Hi."
"Well now that you two have met I've got to get back to the counter."
"Okay."
"Well I'm dome unloading the boxes so....."
"Well You can help Flan with the cakes."
She walked away.
"Cakes?"
"Yeah you know, an item of soft, sweet food made from a mixture of flour, shortening, eggs, sugar, and other ingredients, baked and is often decorated."
She slipped on her apron, tiring it in the back, pulling up her hair.
"I know what cakes are I'm just saying I'm not the one to help with decorating them."
She laughed.
" Neither am I, I just bake them."
"Oh."
She laughed.
Sitting down on a stool in the corner I looked around.
"So how long have you worked here?"
"Well since last summer."
"Oh."
"Yeah it's not that bad."
"That's good."
We sat there in solve for a few seconds.
"How come I've never see you before?"
"Well I lived with my dad in maryland until a few days ago."
"Is your dad here too?"
She looked up.
"No, he actually passed away a few weeks ago, drunk driver."
Flan's mouth dropped open.
"I'm so sorry I-"
"It's okay, I'm bound to be asked the question. So what's Flan short for?"
He chuckled.
"Flannery."
"That's cool."
"Cool it's the weirdest name ever."
"It's better than mine."
"What's yours?"
"Gertrude."
"Oh."
"See."
I chuckled swinging my legs back and forth.
"I know we just met but you said you lived with your dad, but you didn't mention your mom."
I nodded.
"I don't know her, never met her, I mean I did but I don't remember. She walked out on my father an I before I was one, my dad never talked about her if I asked he just blew it off. He took on the role of both parents. He was a good man, I just don't understand why she would leave, but it's whatever."
"I'm sorry to say this but you sound like you have a sucky life."
I nodded.
"Don't be sorry your just telling me how it is and I respect you for that. "
She smiled.
"I have a feeling we're going to be pretty good friends Rudy."
I looked at her with a smirk on my face.
"Only time will tell."Note to readers:
I wanted Michael and Rudy to meet in a perfect, crazy way. So at the moment they meet they see both sides of one another, mind you this isn't the last time they will meet.
Flan though, she tells Rudy how it is, and that makes Rudy feel comfort for some odd reason, is it because she knows her dad always lied to her and she's done with being lied to?
But I wanna know if you liked this chapter, comment telling me how you feel, what I should change anything.
LET ME KNOW!!
