The first years of Hogwarts nervously waited for the doors of the great hall to open, and when it finally did, the Professor in emerald green robes(Professor McGonagall) led them down the great hall.
"Now, when I call out your name, you may please come forward and I shall place the sorting hat on your head." She said.
"Granger, Hermione!" She called out. A girl with bushy hair stepped forward, and McGonagall placed the hat on her head. "GRYFFINDOR!" It yelled in less than a minute, and the table erupted into an applause, screaming with joy and welcoming a new Gryffindor.
"Malfoy, Draco!" She called out, and a boy with blonde hair came up and the hat was placed on his head. It took a long time for the hat to decide where to put this boy.
"GRYFFINDOR!" it yelled again, and an errie silence and a few gasps passed through the hall.
Draco nervously moved towards the Gryffindor table and as he did, he saw a few Slytherins smirking at him, as if mocking him for being in Gryffindor despite being a Malfoy.
The rest of the ceremony took place normally and joining the Gryffindor table were Harry Potter, the Boy who lived, Ron Weasley, The red haired boy, Neville Longbottom, the little nervous boy and many more people.
Draco being in Gryffindor was on the front page of the Daily Prophet the next day, thanks to Rita Skeeter who wrote an article- Blood Traitor, or What? (an unnecessarily dramatic article)
A few days later, Draco found that Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger weren't so bad at all. They, in fact, were the most friendly people he had ever met. Other than them the Weasley twins were also as mischievous as him, and he had managed to freak every professor out with them
One day, a howler came for him from home, something he had been dreading all these days.
It was from his Father, and he said that he had bought shame to the Malfoy clan and that they were no longer related. Draco heard his mother's repeated sobs of "He's just a boy!" at the back, and could not help, but run back to his dormitory, Harry, Ron and Hermione at his heels.
Ron wrote a letter to his mother that very evening, telling her everything about what had happened and received a reply the next day that it was no problem to add another member to the family, and she was ready to accept Draco as her son. Draco jumped with joy hearing this, and all the four of them finally went for their classes, happy.
