I stood outside of the huge house, contemplating.

I figured if I saved the clinic a few days from now, I could eat and gain a a few pounds at this stranger's house to avoid a nurse questioning my rather frail body. Malnutrition and pregnancy wouldn't look too good.

I combed my fingers through my grease-free—thank you, Ryker—hair and nervously walked up to the door. It was strange visiting the person I stole from the very next day.

I stood some more, unsure of what he'd ask, or if this was all some sick joke just to get me and have the police arrest me.

What if they're waiting for that moment?

I bit my lip thoughtfully.

My stomach then decided to produce a loud grumbling, concluding its decision. With that, I mustered up all the strength I could and pushed away all pride and worries before ringing the doorbell.

The ringing noise made me jump.

What if he doesn't answer the door? Oh shit.

The thought that someone else might answer the door, particularly one of the females from yesterday, never dawned on me until now.

I heard the door handle jangle and I tensed up, my body preparing to flee.

It partially opened and a woman— looking about the age of forty— poked her head out and assessed me.

Her ice-blue eyes took me in warily. "Sorry, but whatever you're selling, we're not buying."

Her voice was young and stern, the voice of the lady from yesterday.

She began to close the door and I desperately took a few quick steps forward. "Wait. I'm not, uh, selling anything. Haha."

"Then get on with it. What do you want?" She asked impatiently.

"Uh, your friend, o-or son? He said I could come by." I stammered.

Wow Vince, that sounds reeaaal convincing.

Her response was a short, flat laugh. "My friend or son?"

I nodded. "Yeah, he said I could come by."

Her eyes narrowed into slits. "You don't even know who he is, from the sounds of it. What do you want? It's not like him to invite women here."

I shrugged. "To hang out, I suppose."

She gave a stern smile. "Now, I don't know what you think this is. I understand woman of your age, though. You find him attractive, yes? Unfortunately, he's taken by a wonderful woman and I don't need you--"

I laughed nervously. "No, no. You got it all wrong. I'm not interested in him like", I awkwardly gestured to the house, "Like that. I'm a friend. A new friend?" Although, the thought of him having a partner gave me a pang of what I could only assume was...jealousy?

She opened the door some more and I noticed her jet-black hair slicked back and pulled into a tight bun. She was abnormally tall and very slender; very beautiful for a woman her age. "Listen to me now, I don't appreciate liars coming to my door asking about my son, when they don't even know his name. So, either you leave now or I'll call the police, find out just who you are, and have you sent back to where you belong with a restraining—"

"Mom, do you do this to every new friend I make?" A man laughed.

She jerked her head back to glare at him. "This...this female is asking about you, claiming you're a friend of her's. She doesn't even know your name."
