“Aisha it’s senior year enjoy it, have fun do anything you want, now your father and I have a business dinner to attend tonight so we might not be home for dinner” my adopted mom Kathleen said.
“(Why can't I just be homeschooled, I don't speak that much English)” I said as I cut into my bagel. “Aisha you were homeschool for three years now, we talked about this you have to be social be around kids like you” my adopted dad Jerry said. “Plus you can work on your English and stop speaking French all the time” Jerry said.
“Mon anglais EST pauvre mais je vais lui donner une chance, je suppose (my English is poor however I’ll give it a chance I guess)” I said. “Okay well go get ready for school, we will get Olivia ready for daycare” Kathleen said. I finish eating then I walk to my bedroom. I get dressed in hot pink romper.
As I’m finishing up getting dressed I put my hair in a neat bun. On my way to head down stairs I slip on my gray vans and grab my gray cardigan. I’m going to school for the first time in three years, I don’t want to go but my adopted parents Kathleen and Jerry have done a lot for me so all I can do is try school. Its bad enough have to go to school but it’s a performing Arts school and I don’t speak English very well.
I’m Arabic and Black however I lived in France until three years ago when I was adopted. My birth mother died while giving birth to me and my dad well he’s a long story. But basically I’ve been through hell and back. And Kathleen and Jerry helped me are helping have a normal life. A life period. “Have a good day at school” Jerry said then I left the house and caught the bus to school.
[Ashton High School of the Arts 8:43are] I get into the building, I went to the front office they gave me my schedule the French teacher is my homeroom teacher. The kids are so preppy I know I live in one of the richest areas in Sarasota Florida but these kids are too much for me already. I’m just sitting in homeroom drawing in my little sketch book. My major for this school is Dance and my minor is Art. “Okay class we have a new student Aisha Leone, why don’t you say something about yourself” Mrs. Jacquet said.
“J'ai 17 ans je ne parle pas beaucoup de l'anglais comme vous pouvez le dire. Je suis spécialisé en danse et une mineure en art. Je suis tout à fait i garder pour moi. C’est tout. (I’m 17 years old I don't speak a lot of English as you can tell. I’m majoring in Dance and minoring in Art. I’m quite I keep to myself. That’s it.)” I said. “Oh et mon nom se pronounce comme le Isha A est sliten (oh and my name is pronounced like Isha the A is silent)” I said. “Aisha but the A is silent okay well welcome to our school” she said. I really just want to go home. First period I had French second period I have ESL. Then I have math., science, art, history then Dance which was interesting, I made no friends. [Kathleen’s] “How was school” she asked? I just look at her through the rear view mirror. “Did you make any friends” Jerry asked? I roll my eyes. “Aisha” Jerry said.
“Je n'ai fait aucune école Amis était ennuyeux je veux juste être scolarisé à la maison, (I made no friends school was boring I just want to be homeschooled)” I said then looked out the window. “Well keep trying and this is your sixth therapist please talk to someone” Kathleen said.
[therapist office 4:33pm] since my parents had adopted me three years ago they keep taking me to therapist and I never talked to them ever but I guess I’ll talk I’m ready to talk. “Aisha I understand that I’m your sixth therapist I’m glad your whiling to talk to someone now I understand you speak French and I understand French but to help you with your English I’m going to answer and respond in English” Dr. Peterson said. “So tell me your story” she asked? No one has ever asked me what my story is; they just want to know why I’m so messed up. What happened to me to make me so shy, timid? I like her I find her interesting. I smirked. “What is it” she asked?
