First of all, this is my first ever attempt to write a story so please bear with me.
Second, English is not my first language so there will be a few grammatical and/or punctuation errors.
Third, this is a boyxboy story so if it offends you please kindly leave without any hassle
John's POV
You know that really bitter taste you have in your mouth when you wake up? Yes, that. I had the same taste in my mouth when I woke up. Who likes waking up at 5 am in the morning? Still, I had to drag myself out of bed like any other day.
I could hear my mum shouting from downstairs to see if I had woken up. Typical mothers. I am 19 years old, I can take care of myself. I lazily brushed my teeth and showered, wrapped a towel around my waist and walked out of the bathroom. The only thing I liked about going to work was having to dress up. The fancy shirts and ties. Totally my thing.
I took out a black shirt which is totally my color. I just have a thing for black. I like dark and shady colors. I got dressed as soon as I could. Took a good look and admired myself in the mirror. I won't lie I was still sleepy. That's what I get for staying up too late, but what can I do? Priorities. Which in my case are movies and books. It's not like I regret any of it.
Today was like any other day for me. Work, go home, read, eat and sleep. I had my breakfast and walked out wondering whether I should take the bus or just walk to the terminal. I chose walking. It has its benefits. My workplace was about 40 mins away. 10 minute walk from home to the terminal and 20 mins from ferry to the city and then 5 mins walk to my workplace. I know, I liked walking. I got there just in time for the ferry, got my ticket and rushed in, little did I know that getting on this ferry would change my whole life.
I sat next to a window like I always do, but couldn't get my usual seat, well, because I was a bit too late. I never make eye contact with anyone, it's just weird for me. I put on my headsets playing god knows what with a book in my hand and started reading it as soon as I got seated and settled, ignoring everyone's existence in the ferry. The fresh breeze hitting my face, and even though I couldn't hear the sound of the waves I could feel them crashing against the wood.
I was in my own little world when someone tapped my shoulder from behind. At first I thought it was by mistake so I didn't bother turning around and the person tapped once more, a bit harder this time. I turned around a bit annoyed to see a man in his late twenties, fairly good-looking staring at me, and then that happened. One of those movie scenes where it's just you and the other person and it feels like everyone around you was gone and two of them just stare at each other until one of them starts talking. Where the camera is zoomed onto their faces that you could see even the slightest movements on their faces. So yeah, at that moment that happened until he said Hello. It sounds cheesy, but it did happen. I shook my head forcing me out my daydream only to murmur something even I couldn't possibly understand.
He put his hands forward for a handshake and said "Hello, my name is Mark Woods." I firmly shook his hands and said "Hey, John Traynor" followed by my name is.
I was confused as to why he was talking to me. So I just sat there raising my eyebrows at him like a weirdo.
"That seat is empty, right?" he said pointing towards the seat next to me.
"Yeaaaahhhh"
He stood up, came and sat next to me and said "You don't know me, do you?" with a bright smile. If I had stared at it for two more seconds I'd have gone blind.
Me: "I don't think I do. Who are you again?"
Mark: "Mark Woods. We work for the same company. I have seen you around a bit." He said chuckling a bit.
Me: "I don't think I have though" I swear to god I had never seen his face in the three months that I had worked there or like ever in my entire life. I would have remembered his face if I had seen it before. It's quite "remember-able" if that's even a word. Wait, what? I thought to myself.
Mark: "I'm not surprised because your eyes are always glued to either your phone or a book every time I see you, but you do have very good taste in books I must say."
Me: "I take that as a compliment?" I said it more like a question.
Mark: "Oh yes, definitely. Hahah"
For the rest of the ride we talked about the company we both worked for. Apparently, we weren't on the same floor, since he works for the Accounts Department and I work for the Business. It's not my problem I haven't seen him. WE WERE ON DIFFERENT FLOORS OKAY?
We were slowly approaching the city and I had about twenty minutes to spare. Before we even got close to the terminal people started walking towards the exit.
Restless bastards.
I sat till everyone got off and we were the last two to get off the ferry.
Mark: "Are you walking to Office?" he asked walking towards the terminal's exit.
Me: "Yeah, I'll see you there" and started walking away from him and towards the office.
Mark: "Hey, wait up!" I turned around "I could offer you a ride if you want, I have my bike parked right there" pointing towards some bikes in a distance. Before I even had the chance to respond he started walking towards his bike.
A minute later he comes with his bike and asks me to get on it. I got on his bike and we rode off to the office together.
Sweet.
