I'd like to mention that this story is more like a memoir. It's like me telling someone something that happened a few years ago.

John's Point of View

I might be the only 19 year old in the whole of Maldives who didn't know how to ride a bike.

I don't know why I was so nervous. It was just learning how to ride a bike. How hard can it be?

Even kids do it.

I mean that's what I told myself to make myself feel better.

Time was slowly approaching so I decided to get dressed.

Short sleeved black T-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts.

Good enough for tonight.

Minutes later I get a text from him.

You ready?

Yeah, I'm all dolled up.

Hahah, I'll be there in a minute. Can you wait downstairs?

***

"So, where are we going?" I asked Mark with a wide grin on my face.

"Depends. Have you had dinner?"

"Nope, not yet." I replied.

"Yeah I figured as much. I figured we'll go for dinner first and then go. I feel like treating you today."

He was such a nice guy. You know, people who buy you food are nice. I like people who buy me food.

We stopped at a local restaurant. It had a wonderful terrace where you could sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee after eating, with a beautiful view of the sea even though we couldn't see shit.

The view was still wonderful.

They served a wide range of dishes. I had a hard time ordering something cause of their large menu. It took me almost ten minutes to go through all of it, but I am one of those people who takes a lot of time to order something but ends up ordering the same thing every single time. I ended up ordering the spaghetti which was my favorite dish.

Mark ordered Chicken Mexicana with Couscous.

"You know what Couscous reminds me of?" I asked Mark who was awfully quiet.

"What?" He asked confused.

"FRIENDS. Remember when Chandler cracks a joke about the boring doctor Monica was dating?"

Here's some little known facts about couscous. They didn't add the last cous till 1979." I said trying to mimic Chandler and failing miserably.

He laughed a bit and his smile just phased out. His face was plain without his normal million dollar smile. I figured I'd ask him if anything was wrong because clearly something was bothering him. He just wasn't himself.

He replied first with "nothing" and continued saying that he was just thinking about teaching me how to ride a bike and that how I am going to both of us killed tonight.

There it was.

His toothpaste-commercial-worth-smile. :D

It didn't last long though. I figured I would just drop it because maybe he just didn't want to talk about it.

Dinner arrived and we both ate in peace.

We headed out and drove to an isolated area just in case I don't run someone over. That would not be a good story to tell my kids. That's IF I managed to live with it after killing an innocent person.

It was getting kind of windy.

I got on the bike and he started with the basics. He kept on rambling for a few minutes and I just listened to him trying to get in all into my head.

I said okay, and after trying to remember everything he said I managed to start the bike, turned the lights on.

As soon as I did it started drizzling.

We parked the bike and found shelter nearby because the rain was getting heavier by the second.

Why? Today of all days. I question myself mentally.

I loved rain, but why tonight?

I started singing the nursery rhyme in my head.

Rain, rain go away. Come again another day.

It went on for a little while.

We made slight conversation, but he kept quiet most of the time.

After what felt like hours rain finally stopped so we decided to go for a little ride. It was still drizzling a bit and we decided it was best that I learn later since; rain and a new learner? Not a good combination.

We headed to the beach which was nearby.

No one was around and it was a bit cold.

There was this little hut with a bench and we both sat next to each other.

There were no stars in the sky.

No moon.

No words spoken.

Just the sound of waves crashing against the sand.

Mark broke the silence and asked me "What do you think about gay people?"

"Where is this coming from?" Where did this come from? Why? .. and why? i asked him and then myself.

"Just answer the damn question"

"Well, it's not like I have a problems with them. As long as they don't shove it in my face .. "

He looked into my eyes and said "I have been dying to do this" and held me by the back of my head and bam!

The next thing I knew, he slammed his lips to mine and nearly knocked the wind out of my lungs.

Electricity passed through my spine.

Butterflies ran through my stomach.

It was fiery yet passionate and demanding. I wanted to pull away but I just couldn't seem to. It was just as if my body wouldn't allow me to stop. My brain just stopped functioning for a bit.

I wanted more.

That's when reality hit me.

I finally realized what I was doing.

I was kissing another man ..

Another MAN.
