I proceeded to stuff popcorn into Sophie's mouth as she giggled into my neck, earning multiple shhhs from the families near by.
"Sophie shut your ass!" I covered her mouth and began to laugh myself.
"I can't," she replied, "he's her cousin!" And her hysterics started all over again.
Currently, we were ducking behind the seats at the very back of the cinema, trying our best to not be seen by the guards, who were already tracing the theatre looking for the people responsible for all the noise. Another twenty minutes passed and our exit seemed to be getting closer from the last time we were told to shut up.
"Ladies," he said, "this is a family movie, you're distracting the others."
"Sorry sir." we replied, still giggling and biting at the inside of our cheeks.
Suddenly out of nowhere, Sophie's laughter erupted from her mouth and that was our ticket to the street. I felt kind of honoured, being escorted out and everything, not an everyday luxury for a girl. So far my Wednesday was going well, finished literature homework and an early start on my assignment, the motivation to spend half an hour on my eyeliner and actually vacuum my room. Sophie and I went to the park, had a picnic, took some cute photos for her Instagram and watched an incredibly boring yet compelling film about a white, middle class family.
In my pocket I felt my phone buzz and checked it to find a text from Mrs. Forbes,
Good day Lena, could you please come over today at 17:00, I'll be gone for 3 hours and all you'll need to do is prepare a snack for Daisy and help her with her studies. Thank you very much, Mrs. Forbes.
"ugh I'll need to go soon Soph." I said, sighing and pushing my phone back into my pocket.
"What time? I was thinking we'd have a little run away to the city later, maybe go to a snazzy café?" She replied, mouth stuffed with gummy bears, legs at an awkward angle on the bench.
"Sounds great, only if you pick me up though, I'm not bothered to walk home."
"Sure thing, babe." she smiled and kissed my cheek. At times like these I consider myself extremely lucky to have Sophie Doyle as my best friend.
We spent the rest of our time together looking at pictures Sophie sneaked of Marcus and rating Instagram models' abs. She changed her mind about piercing her nose five times in the matter of an hour and started looking up tattoo parlours. Slowly, the sun began to set and the leaves littering the ground became even more ablaze. I love this town, the clear divide between people, no ambiguity or judging, you were either Rosewood or Westland and both sometimes wished they were the other. The only place you would find the two schools together would be the football games or extremely dodgy parties (which only crack heads went to), it was how we kept everything at bay and the white flag up.
"babe I love you but you totes lied when you said that you showered this morning." muttered Sophie with a scrunched nose.
I faked a gasp and clutched my heart, "how dare you! I would do no such thing."
She raised her eyebrow and gave me her grandma look, the one she's mastered over the several years and only pulls when I say something moronic.
"yeah ok true, but I had a very busy morning." I defended my smelly state and crossed my arms.
"hun, no one is too busy to shower," she smirked and pushed me towards the direction of my house, "go wash your filth and I'll pick you up at 8."
I exploded into a fit of giggles and began my way, walking backwards, saluting her goodbye, "Sir yes Sir."
