It’s been two hours and Susan barely now sends for me. I run back to Lucy’s room. And I notice that Lucy had been put into a night gown. “She will live your Highness. I was able to stop the infection of the wound since the infection was new. She will need her bandages changed twice a day. And this herb medicine will need to be applied on the wound when the bandage is changed. I also brought her something for pain when she wakes. Oh and when she does wake see if you can get her to eat a little something. It’s my understanding she listens to you more than any other.” “I will do as you say.” “Ok goodnight your Highness, your Majesty.” He says before leaving. He called Susan your Majesty. The people all call Susan and Peter your Majesty and Lucy and I are addressed as your Highness. Susan also leaves for bed. I take off my shoes. And outer shirt. And get in bed with her in my undershirt and pants. I get in and go on my side and put my arm around her middle in a gentle yet protective way. And I let myself sleep.
Later
I wake up cause Lucy is having a nightmare. And from I can tell I’m dying in it. It appears we have the same fear. She starts screaming in her nightmare Peter is keeping her from me. “Lucy! Lucy wake up wake up please! Lucy!” I cry out and she wakes up. She takes in her surroundings and realizes I’m there. She curls up in a ball. I know that causes her pain. “Lucy why do you keep hiding yourself from me? Why what did I do?!” I ask my emotions messing with my voice. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath like she wants to cry. “Its not you… you did nothing wrong Edmund.” She says her voices sounding shaking. “Then why have you been hiding yourself from me?!” “Its not you Edmund it’s me.” “Whats wrong with you?” I ask and after a moment or two she says. “I don’t know.” She says in a way that I can tell she is crying. I still hate it when she cries. I can tell she is conflicted. And the distance she made between us has been tormenting her as well. For some reason she felt she had to. I wish she would tell me why. But I don’t want to make her feel worse than she already is.

“Im sorry Edmund. I won’t hide from you anymore. It causes us too much pain.” She says softly still crying. I take her into my arms needing her to stop crying. She stiffens up for a moment or two then she relaxes. That hurts a bit. But what gives me hope is that she doesn’t push me away instead she goes further into my arms. Her head against my chest. I turn us carefully so I’m on my back. Lucy is on her side with her head in my chest. I think she is listening to my heart beat. I think listening to my heart calms her. Cause I feel her completely relax and she falls back to sleep. I smile. She must feel so safe and secure with me. I close my eyes and go to sleep.
A few days later
I’ve been with Lucy the most out of all of us. I spend as much time as possible without being neglectful of my duties. Susan has been with her a few times only for about two hours a day. Cause she is busy with her duties and preparing for her wedding. But Peter only stayed with her once for twenty minutes. I came back from a meeting with our troops and only a servant girl was staying with her. Needless to say I was very cross with Peter. He left her alone. I talked to him about it. He didn’t understand my concern he said he had a duty to attend to. I asked if it was more important than staying with his sister for forty more minutes. He got mad and said it’s not like she was dying she was fine! I punched him hard. And told him it was the last time I trust him with Lucy. And I left him on the ground holding his jaw.

I return to Lucy’s room where she was waking up from her nap. She smiles in greetings. Then winces the pain has come back again. So I give her some pain medicine. She takes it. “Edmund my bandages need to be changed.” “They should have been changed during Peter’s watch.” “I would have woke up if they were.” She says. That is unfortunately true. “Should I get Susan?” “No it’s fine. She is going through a fitting for her wedding gown.” “I could go get..” “No Edmund it’s fine. I trust you.” She says rolling over onto her stomach her blanket covering her lower half. I grab new bandages and the herb medicine. I also get a two bowl of water and set them on her night table and a cloth. I carefully lift up her sleeping gown. And I carefully take off the bandages. I take the cloth and wet it with water and clean her wound. Using both bowls of water to do so. Then once her wound is clean I let it breathe for a few minutes. Then I gently put the herbal medicine on her wound. I’m so careful cause I don’t want it to be like last year pulling out the arrow. Her screams of pain still haunt my nightmares. When I finish I bandage her up. When I’m done with that I put her sleeping gown back down. And she carefully rolls back over. Her smiling face is my reward. Oh goodness I love her so much.
