You continue to jog towards him, despite the soreness in your legs. Still tired from practice, you begin to slow down to a walk. Once close enough, you call out to him.

"Shouyou! W-Wait up!"

At the sound of your voice, the short orange-haired boy immediately stops in his tracks and turns around. His face lights up upon seeing you, and he waves his arm wildly, while you do the same.

"(y/n)!" he shouts as you approach him.

Your arm falls to your side as you smile at his undying enthusiasm. "Hey!"

Hinata beams brightly and gestures for you to continue walking with him, which you do. The two of you stroll down the street while making small talk, until he asks you something.

"Where were you today? I waited for you 15 minutes after practice, but I thought you went home without me or something!" Hinata shoves his hands into his pockets, looking down at the ground. Both of you had always walked to school and home together, since you lived across the street from each other. Guilt makes its way into your heart as you realize that you had left your close friend waiting for nothing.

"Oh," you say with a high voice, trying to lift the atmosphere, "today's practice turned out to last longer than it usually does." You scratch the back of your head. "I'm really sorry for having you wait there."

Hinata directs his gaze from the ground to you. "It's alright!" Appreciating his never-ending happiness, you hear Hinata speak up again. "So why was practice longer today?"

You suddenly remember that you wanted to invite Hinata to your race tomorrow. Glad that he had asked his question, you grin before answering. "We were training for a race tomo-" Hinata stops walking and quickly cuts you off. You look back at him, feeling your legs stop as well.

"What?! You have a race tomorrow?!" he yells, "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Give me all the details, (y/n)!"

You laugh at his shocked demeanor. "I was planning on telling you earlier, but I forgot." You snicker at your own bad memory. "Anyways, it's gonna be a 4 x 100 relay race against Aobajōsai, Date Tech, Ougiminami, Johzenji, Nekoma, Fukurōdani, and, uh, Shiratorizawa! It'll be held at Karasuno, too! I'm running the last quarter, and I was wondering if you wanted to come and watch."

Hinata's eyes widen. "Yeah, of course! What time's it gonna be?"

"9 AM."

"Alright, I'll be there!" Hinata gives his signature smile before continuing to walk home with you.

---

"Bye, Shouyou!" you call as you wave at him.

"See ya tomorrow, (y/n)!" Hinata leaves your driveway, and you watch from your porch as he walks across the street to his house.

Unlocking the door, you sigh from your long day. You're greeted by your mom, who is cooking dinner, and your dad, who is setting the table. Casual conversation is exchanged, and after what seems like an eternity, you're finally free to go to your room. There, you throw your bags to the side and drop onto your bed, both physically and mentally drained. Knowing that you can't call it a night until after dinner, you pull out your homework to kill some time. Your attempts to finish it early, however, fail, and somehow, you end up scrolling through your phone.

A few minutes pass, and you drop your phone on your bed when you hear your mother's voice ringing throughout the house. "(y/n)! Dinner's ready!"

"Okay!" you call back. You don't realize how hungry you are before stepping out of your room and having the aroma of a home-cooked meal fill your nostrils. You enter the dining room, taking a seat next to your father. Once your mother is seated, you all give your thanks and begin to dig in.

Midway into dinner, you stop eating and look up at your parents. Both of them notice and stop, too.

"What's wrong?" your mom asks, a hint of worry in her voice.

"Yeah, you never suddenly stop eating!" your dad chimes in. He snickers at his own joke for a while as his wife sighs.

"N-Nothing's wrong!" you say, attempting to prevent them from fretting, "It's just that I have some good news!"

"What is it?" they simultaneously ask.

With a smile forming, you proudly announce, "I was chosen to run the last quarter of the 4 x 100 relay race tomorrow!" Their concerned expressions swiftly give way to joyful ones.

"That's great!" your mother praises.

"Yeah! Can we come watch you?" your father inquires.

You nod your head. "Mhm! It's at 9 AM, so you guys could drive me to Karasuno and come in."

Your parents exchange a few uneasy looks. You immediately react. "Is everything okay?" Now, there was worry in your voice.

Your mother stares at you from across the table. "(y/n), I-I don't think we can make it if it's at 9 AM."

"Huh? Why?"

"Your father and I have work then."

"Can't you guys call off of it?" You wince at your own words, hating yourself for asking such a selfish question.

"We already used up all our vacation days." Your mom reaches for your hand and grabs it. "W-We're so sorry." Genuine sadness fills their eyes, and you try to brush it off.

"I-It's fine. I'll get a couple of friends to come then." You feel your father's hand on your shoulder.

"Sorry, (y/n)."

"Don't worry about it," you say. You force a smile onto your face as you resume eating.

---

You finish washing the last dish, yawning out of pure exhaustion.

"Tired?" your mom calls from the living room.

"Yeah, very," you reply.

"You should go to bed, then. Rest up well, and beat those other schools tomorrow!" she cheers.

"Haha, yeah. I will." After drying your hands, you head back to your room. "Goodnight!"

"Goodnight!" your parents call back.

You close your room door, turning on the lights. You sluggishly pull yourself into the bathroom to do your nightly routine. As you're brushing your teeth, you hear your phone chime. A text? You spit the toothpaste out of your mouth and rinse up before walking to the bed. You grab your phone and open the text messages.

Friday 8:31 PM

shoume: what's your call time? i wanna show up a bit early :##

You: oh, my call time's 8

shoume: ok thanks!! see you tomorrow (y/n)!!!

You: no problem ^^

You shut your phone off, plugging it into its charger and leaving it on the nightstand. You lower yourself onto your bed, a mix of emotions running through you. Not wanting to deal with them, you shake them off and switch off your lamp. The darkness and silence of the night calms you, until it finally lulls you into a dreamless sleep.
