Jace's POV
"Come on Jace" Justin, the receiver yells, running into the cafeteria. On Thursdays the football team tells the sports announcements to the cafeteria. As the quarterback I have to make most of them.
I walk in looking at all the humans in the cafeteria. I don't feel like doing the announcements today. Jacob and those girls are getting on my nerves. Jacob thinks he can stand up to me just because we are friends. But this time he has to listen to me. For some reason I hate that girl.
She just gives me this feeling. She makes me feel weaker. And I cannot be weak. My father would kill me himself if I ever acted weak. As he always says, an alpha can't be weak. It's alright for Lucas and Jacob to be weak, they are just betas and omegas. But for me, I have the weight of the pack and the council on my shoulders
"So the cafeteria will be under construction for a week" I say emotionlessly. My eyes sweep over the pack table. Everyone looks happy even if they are silent.
My eyes land on the new girl. I've never seen her clearly before. She is beautiful, the most beautiful girl in this school, in this world. A feeling goes through my body like I am about to float in the air. The world seems to stop and my throat clenches.
"Mate mate mate" my wolf screams in a demanding voice. Mate? She can't be! I can't have a mate now! Not with the council! Worries fill my head but her eyes seem to take them all away. Subconsciously my legs start to walk, leading me to her.
No, I can't do this. I can't, all I will be doing is putting her in danger. If the council ever finds out her life will be hell. I have to hide her, at least until I'm alpha.
I rush to her grabbing her arm. We have to talk. I have to convince her not to tell anyone. Before, I hated her for no reason. Now my goal in life is to protect her. You hear growing up that mates change your life. Until now I thought it was all romantic garbage.
"What are you doing?" She screams as I drag her out of the lunchroom. People watch in awe as we go. Some of them probably already suspect we're mates. I am going to have to do some serious acting to squash that.
"Just wait" I whisper still pulling her. Sparks erupt between our hands like miniature fireworks. It takes all of me not to just turn around and mark her now. If I listened to my wolf, I would have done it five minutes ago.
I pull her into an empty classroom and lock the door. We have to get things straight. I can't let her get hurt.
"What's your problem?" She asks looking angry. Her forehead is scrunched up and her lips are pursed. Her lips... we should just mate right here right now. To hell with the council! No, no, focus!
"You can't tell people we're mates" I say firmly but gently. She has to get I mean it, but I don't want her to think I am rejecting her.
I heard she just found out about wolves so she probably doesn't know about the council. About what would happen if they found out too soon.
"Why" She whispers as her face falls. Oh no, she thinks I am rejecting her. I grab her tiny hands, holding them in mine. Sparks fly again where our skin touches.
"The council, if they found out it would be terrible." I sigh looking her in the eyes. She is going to really have to trust me. She can't tell anyone that can't be trusted.
"What do you mean?" She asks still looking sad. My wolf is pissed at not being able to comfort his mate properly.
"They have these rules that apply to future Alphas and their mates. We can't let them know until I am Alpha" I say touching her cheek. She seems to accept it but her eyes are still full of worry and sadness.
"Listen, I'll come to your house tonight. We can talk about this and some other stuff" I smile trying to change the subject. Even though we have to be secretive, I still want to be with her. She is freaking hot! I would have to be a fool to not want to be with her.
"Why can't we talk now?" She asks smiling back. It's a small smile but a smile nonetheless. A smile that calms my wolf down.
"Some people are untrustworthy. That's why you can't tell anyone" I say looking into her eyes. This isn't fair, I find my mate and I have to hide her.
"Okay" She smiles squeezing my hands a little. Her scent is coming off her in waves making my wolf crazy. She smells like strawberries, after the rain, and something else. I can't wait until we mate and she carries my scent too.
"See you tonight?" I asks getting up. I have to go back to the cafeteria and act like nothing has happened. I have to make sure no one knows what is really going on.
I leave the room, leaving my beautiful mate in silence. What am I doing? We just met and I talk to her for five minutes.
I march back in to where she is sitting right where she was. She's looking down at her feet. I upset her, how could I do that?
She is so pretty! Better looking than Natalie ever was. She stands up looking confused.
I grab her face moving her back to the wall. Our lips come together in an explosion of sparks and fireworks. Oh my gosh how can I ever stop doing this? My wolf excitedly howls and yells.
We separate panting heavily and looking into each other's eyes. Yesterday I was playing football and being a jerk like any other day. Now I am kissing my mate! Can life get any better?
