Everything was back to normal. Almost.
Daisy was out of custody. We told her the truth. It was hard for her to believe all this but eventually she did. She also shed a few tears for Jake, even after knowing what he did. Aaron, no longer remained Taylor. He blew up his cover but decided to stay in university. "I need this new experience" were his exact words. But he had to keep 2 bodyguards because of all girls and guys running after him. Jonathan was himself, his real self. Talking to everyone, socializing with everyone but one time I heard him crying in library when he thought there was no one. He was trying hard to cope up. Time will heal his wounds. There was a small funeral arranged for Jake and the reason of his death was an accident. Nobody questioned this, but even if someone did, Jonathan used to take care of them. Sometimes he used to look at the chair, where Jake used to sit during lunch and after some moments he used to excuse himself. Obviously, he couldn't stop himself getting teary. But nobody noticed. Maybe.
As for me, I was back to normal. My normal being, living two lives. It is known to only few people what happened to Scott. But all my bosses in the secret agency think that he has run away with some top secrets. And now he is on our Top Wanted list, not that I complain. Some of credit of creating this misunderstanding goes to me and as well as Jonathan. After all he did, I think we did the right thing. I was reappointed because of my good track record and I had a new boss, Ben. The same Ben from my café. I never knew that the manager of my café can be a secret agent. But that only proves his capability of putting up a good cover. And I would like to take my words back. He wasn't the worst boss. Well, for now, at least.
We all were sitting on our regular lunch table when Aaron spoke, "Kate I was just wondering, where are the rings?" It was the first time since we returned, someone spoke about the case. We always feared that if we talked about it, Jonathan would get hurt. This time, when Aaron said, Jonathan went rigid but didn't say anything.
Just then we all received a message, except Daisy, "New Mission. Reach in 5" Ben liked to keep it short and to the point. Daisy gave us knowing look and nodded her head, kind of giving us permission to go.
We walked out of campus, when the worn out truck, parked in the corner grabbed my attention. The same truck which helped us to get out of that unfortunate night. But continued towards our jeep.
Before starting the jeep Aaron again said, "You didn't answer my question."
The rings weren't with me. I gave them to Jonathan. He was the assigned protector, not me. I gave them to him and asked him to keep them safe and somewhere, a place which I also didn't know anything about.
Jonathan answered before turning engine on, "Its a Secret."
The three words which made me blurt out an observation I have made, " You know, Secrets can create a mess."
And we all knew it was true, by experience.
