Rey, Scavenger

Kylo Ren stood in front of us.  Finn reached into a pouch at his belt.

He pulled out the lightsaber.

I drew my gun and tried to fire.

But before I could, he extended his hand and I flew up, hitting the mast, hard.

And then black.

When the darkness retreated, I was staring at two clashing lights.

Then the blue was extinguished.

I felt the thud as Finn fell.

"No." My voice didn't seem to want to work.

Kylo Ren extended his hand towards something. I followed it to the lightsaber.

Struggling to my feet, my mind raced. If I could convince that stormtrooper to let me go, maybe I could pull the lightsaber to me using the Force.

It was worth a shot.

My fave screwed up in concentration as I pulled on the lightsaber.

It flew from where it was wedged between two boards and into my hand.

Kylo Ren whirled around.

We were both astonished.

I set my jaw and raised the saber. My fingers found the button to switch it on.

A blue blade sprung out and illuminated the right side of my vision.

He killed Han. He may have killed Finn. And he murdered all of those people on their islands. He deserved no mercy.

I ran forward. He deflected the saber easily.

We circled each other, striking every now and again.

A huge blast rocked the ship. Finn's friends at the Resistance must have hit their mark.

Behind me, a crack opened up, straight down to the hissing boiler below.

Kylo Ren struck with his blade and I deflected it, my blade horizontal.

He pushed me backwards towards the chasm, until my heels touched the edge of the wood. I leaned back, hoping I wouldn't lose my balance.

No way out of this one, Rey.

"You need a teacher!" he yelled. "I can show you the ways of the Force!"

"The Force," I whispered.

Then, I closed my eyes to concentrate on that little nudging of the Force that sat in the back of my mind.

The Force gave me strength, and I was able to shove him off of me and away from the crack.

I lunged forward, he pushed back, and I was able to grab the hilt of his lightsaber. He grabbed the hilt of mine and I shoved his blade towards the deck of the Starkiller.

The red blade went through the deck. I brought my blade down on the saber's hilt and cut it, effectively breaking it. I swung again, and he fell, with a cut on his face.

I could kill him.

I could kill him now.

I take a step forward.

At that moment, the ship begins to break apart.

We are on separate pieces.

I extinguish my saber and rush to Finn's side. I hold my ear to his chest.

He's alive.

The piece we are on drops into the ocean. There's a bit of mast on our raft, and I lash Finn to it so he won't wash away.

I stand, balancing against the waves, and look for a Resistance ship of any sort.

The Millennium Falcon sails into view.

I yell for it and someone sails it over.

Chewbacca lowered a rope. I helped bring Finn up on board and we sailed off to D'Qar, leaving the wreckage of the huge destroyer behind us.
