Leucosia is standing by the locker the school gave her, the dented inside and empty shelves littered with graffiti. She's trying her best to procrastinate going to history, gods know she doesn't need that kind of class.

"Why didn't you kill me?" Emmett appears at her side, looking down at her with an unreadable expression.

"Did you want me to kill you," Leucosia scoffs not taking her eyes off of the colorful artwork decorating her locker walls.

"No, but you could have if you wanted to." Emmett frowns, he was hoping she had a valid reason along the lines of 'you don't have a soul for me to eat.' He watches as her face completely closes off, becoming blank and lifeless.

"It would have been too easy." Leucosia shuts her locker, deciding that maybe history isn't too bad of an option. She turns away from Emmett and walked away not bothering to look back.

"I don't think you are a bad person." It's not a lie either, Emmett thinks there is more her than she let's on. He can't explain it, but looking into her eyes while under her spell, he felt something. He didn't feel desire or want, he felt a deep feeling of emptiness. He thought it was him dying, but he thinks it was more than that. Him and Leucosia were connected in those moments.

"Well that's a mistake." Leucosia's words are forced and come out sharper than intended. She stops dead in her tracks, looking ahead in the empty hallway because it dawns on her that her mind control on Emmett didn't work. Maybe because she said it in Greek? No, she's done things like that before in Greek and it's worked just fine.

"Give me a reason on why you think so." Emmett isn't giving up, he knows something is off about the entire situation.

"Because I'm a monster. Isn't that reason enough?" It's barely a whisper that comes out, but he hears it. Leucosia starts walking again, but not to class. She needs to take some time and reorganize her thoughts because she's slipping back into who she can't be. She can't let people get hurt because of her.

Emmett can't stop thinking about what Leucosia said. She sounded so dejected and self loathing in the hallway which was so different than how she acted with everyone else. He ran through almost every scenario he could think of but the one that played out baffles him. He just wants to understand why. And he thinks he almost understands where her thinking lies but, of course, Edward has to ruin it for him and tell everyone what he's been thinking.

"She can't be that bad!" Emmett leans his head in one of his hands.

"She killed people. A lot of people." Carlisle tries to reason with Emmett like he doesn't already know that.

"But so have we. If we didn't hunt animals how many people would we have killed?" The thought is daunting and it does put a lot of perspective on how much they drink.

"Why are you defending her? She's a monster." Rosalie yells, throwing her hands up.

"And we aren't?" Emmett can't even look at them, any of them.

"So she gets to play god and decide who lives and who dies?" Rosalie scoffs, she can't believe Emmett is trying to defend Leucosia. Emmett gets up and leaves. He doesn't know where he's going to go, but he can't be here right now.

The meadow reminds Leucosia of the island she stayed on in Greece. Flowers blooming, butterflies and birds everywhere. It was nice to lay there, surrounded by something so familiar but new at the same time.

Please don't stand so close to me
I'm having trouble breathing
I'm afraid of what you'll see right now
I give you everything I am
All my broken heart beats
Until I know you'll understand

And I will make sure to keep my distance
Say, "I love you," when you're not listening
And how long can we keep this up, up, up?

And I keep waiting
For you to take me
You keep waiting
To save what we have

So I'll make sure to keep my distance
Say, "I love you," when you're not listening
And how long can we keep this up, up, up?

The flowers she wove into a crown sits beside her. A light breeze wafts through the meadow, rustling the grass. She lays in the grass looking up at the cloud covered sky, listening to the birds chattering and flying overhead. Idly she wonders what it would be like to fly again.

She hears muttering across the meadow and almost snorts. In the past couple of hours she's watched the sun's shadow go across the sky and wondered if Apollo could see her through the clouds. She looks up not knowing what to expect, but Emmett, of all people, was pacing on the edge of the meadow tugging at his hair.

"I get that you have some weird obsession with me but don't you think this is a little extreme?" Leucosia sits up on her elbows watching as Emmett stops dead in his tracks. It takes him a moment to find Leucosia, who is hidden in the tall grass.

"Well you caught me." Emmett laughs scratching his neck. "Can I sit?" He points next to Leucosia. She looks at him, and then nods and sits all the way up.

"And where's the rest of your family? Lurking in the shadows?" Leucosia started playing with the grass, not knowing what to do with her hands.

"No, they are at home. We had a disagreement and I thought this place was a secret." Emmett sits down watching Leucosia's deft hands weave the grass and flowers together.

"The disagreement was about me, right?" Leucosia didn't look up but she could feel Emmett watching her.

"They think you are a monster and forget that we are too."

"They aren't the first to call me a monster, so it's not that big of a deal." Leucosia shrugs, she's been called much worse.

"You sound like them." Emmett mutters bitterly. Leucosia looks up at Emmett, who is pouting like a child.

"You shouldn't ruin your relationship with your family because you are trying to convince yourself I'm not a monster." Emmett opens his mouth to speak, but Leucosia holds up her hand to stop him. "My father is a river god and my mother is a nymph, I eat the souls of humans and in ancient times I ate the flesh of man. I am, by definition, a monster."

"Just because you are a monster doesn't mean you are a bad person. Why do you sell yourself short?"

"I can feel it in my heart that I deserve every bad thing that's happened to me." Leucosia pauses. "You don't know what it's like. Centuries of people thinking they love you. Then once they stop and think, they realize they only loved my face or fell under some mental spell they inflicted upon themself." Or they died. "After awhile you get use to it. If people see the worst in you, then your heart can never break."

"You pretend to be something you're not so people won't fall in love with you?" Leucosia wants to be loved but she doesn't want someone to love her for her face or her voice. She wants them to love her but she isn't sure if that's even possible anymore.

"People don't love monsters." Leucosia stares up at the stars. It has been a long time since someone has talked to her, actually had a conversation that was something more than the weather or the game last night she didn't watch.

"Other monsters love monsters." The stars are bright that night
