Lily and Remus befriended each other in first year, and Lily was the first to know that about Remus' "furry little problem". Remus didn't tell her, of course, Lily found out herself. After one terrible full moon, Remus woke up in the hospital wing with Lily at his side. She confessed what she knew, about how she had gotten a book about werewolves "for some light reading". Remus was afraid that Lily would be afraid of him, but Lily presented him with a large block of thick chocolate wrapped in gold paper and said, "Here, I heard chocolate helps to cheer you up". Remus was thinking of this moment when he told Harry that his mother was one of the nicest people that he's ever met.
