Office Mayhem: The Struggles of a Technician

Dismantled iMacs and laptops

Aligned with the tattered blue mats

Of the splintered work benches, as if

Pets waiting to be diagnosed by

A veterinarian.  Very few purred from

Their instant recovery, others sputtered

And howled insistently to be cured of

Their owner's cruel inflictions.

The insistent begging and hostility

Of the customers, ignited an unyielding

Blaze along the contours of my neck.

Like Mount St. Helen, I was prepared

To blow my top.  Every day, for as long

As I can remember, I'm told to never

Argue with the customer.  No matter

What happens, the customer was always

Right.

Why can't customers appreciate the

Endeavouring hours that one puts into

Mending their mistakes?  Instead, they

Ridicule protocols that have been

Established for five, possibly six years.

Like a great horned owl scavenging for

Food, my mind swivels in every direction,

Desperate to obtain an answer to their

Hostile behaviour.  Do I want to understand

The "intellect" that is bestowed upon our

customers?  Not really.

Unhooking the threadbare static strap,

My grimy tennis shoes navigated my

Tortured physique through the maze of

Workbenches, until I crossed the threshold

To the back room.  I was in need of

A chance to regain my bearings.

There have been times when I desperately

Wanted to remove myself from this

Livelihood, but I can't.  This wasn't an

Occupation that I had acquired through an

Interview, rather, it was from the pleas of two

Loving parents that were making an effort

To hoist themselves from a financial predicament.

Nothing could rupture the liveliness of this

Business, seeing that it's the engaging souls of

The employees who elicit an exuberant

Atmosphere.  Until the day I'm called upon to

Undergo a worthy vocation, I shall remain here.

Endearing torments of purgatory for the sake of

Those who I call family.
