Iris speedily wrote down her notes as her professor spoke. Her hands were cramping by now, but she had forgotten to bring her recorder to class, so she had no other choice but to record her notes by hand.
By the time class was over, she was dog tired. However, she was still grateful for her mother who had given her the day off today.
Exiting class, she headed to the cafe. Her stomach was practically barking at her.
After entering the cafeteria, she decided to grab a bite to eat from Taco Bell instead of from the vending machine today.
"Hi, how may I help you?" The cashier asked Iris.
Iris told the cashier what she wanted and waited for her order number to be called.
While she waited, she decided to flip through Snapchat. All that she ever came across on there was constant videos of people smoking, twerking, and/or partying. Then there was always the occasional "streaks" message she would receive, yet always ignore.
Someone tapped her on her shoulder, forcing her eyes to pull away from her phone. Iris hated when people tapped on her shoulder for her attention, so this annoyed her.
She swung her head in the direction behind her, her crazy hair following the pattern of her head.
The face was very familiar to her, but she couldn't place a name with it. All she knew was that the familiar face was in her Wednesday afternoon art class.
Iris continued to analyze the girl. She was very pretty, with cocoa skin that always had a healthy natural glow accompanying it. Her hair was usually up in a puff; today she allowed her natural hair to run free. Her pierced rounded nose complimented her big moony eyes. Iris envied the girls stature; short and cute. She sported a big, baggy, orange hoodie and black tights with orange Pumas to match. She looked good to Iris.
Not bad. Iris thought.
"Did you hear me?" The girl asked, once again breaking Iris away from her internal thoughts.
Iris shook her head. "Uh, no I'm sorry. What did you say?"
"I said I think your number is being called."
It wasn't until then that Iris realized her number had been being called for about a solid 5 minutes.
She rushed to grab her food, feeling embarrassed. After apologizing, she made her way back to her table. She'd noticed the girl was still standing there.
Iris looked up to her. "Thank you. With me being so oblivious I wouldn't have gotten my food until fifteen minutes later." She joked.
"No problem." The girl chuckled. She left for a brief moment to get her food as well, but returned soon after.
"Mind if I take a seat here with you?" She questioned.
Iris shrugged. She was never one to be rude and deny people unless she truly had to. However, she did find it strange that the girl wanted to eat with her.
