The next day I got up and got ready for school. I checked my neck for Hayden's bite mark, but the scar that was left was healed after I drank his blood. I pulled on a long sleeve blue T-shirt that matched my eyes. I then pulled on skinny jeans and knee-high black boots to match my shirt.

I brushed out my dark brown hair that was now starting to look black since it was winter. I put on my makeup and then brushed my teeth. I had some extra time when I was done so I flat ironed my hair as well. When I was done I looked at my clock and was pleased to see that it was time to go. I grabbed my bag and walked out of my bedroom.

I walked by Hayden's room, expecting him to follow me out. When I got to the end of the hallway and Hayden still hadn't come out I walked back down the hall and pushed open his door without making a sound. I looked in to see Hayden shirtless, still asleep, and had an arm thrown over his face. He was wearing a pair of basketball shorts that he usually slept in.

I quickly looked away from him and looked at the floor as I walked in. Hayden must have been really tired for him to not wakeup to the sound of my footsteps getting closer. I looked down at him and realized his mouth was partially open, his fangs out and piercing his bottom lip. I reached out and gently shook his shoulder.

          "Hayden," I said.

Suddenly his arm fell from his face, revealing his crimson, bright red eyes. He grabbed me by the shoulders and I was under him on his bed within seconds. Hayden's legs were straddling my hips as he leaned over me. One of his hands were pressing into my shoulder as his other hand held a knife to my neck.

I looked up at his face that was inches from mine, his crimson eyes still glowing as he bared his fangs. "Hayden, it's me!" I shouted as I felt the knife being pressed harder into my neck. I pushed my hands against his bare chest in my attempt to get him to stop.

Hayden shook his head and pulled away from me. He dropped the knife from my neck and dropped it on the floor. He still leaned over me as he stared down at me in terror and confusion.

"Lex, I'm so sorry, my vampire side acted on defense before I was awake," Hayden explained.

"It's okay, I understand that stuff like this happens, but that doesn't make it any less frightening," I said honestly.

Hayden gave me a regretful look before his body went rigid on mine. I looked at him, confused until his eyes trailed down to my neck. His bright blue eyes sparked with worry, but they also help longing and desire. I felt a drop of blood trickle down my neck from where the knife had pressed into me. I knew exactly what was about to happen if I didn't stop it.

"Hayden, I know it's harder to resist now that we're marked, but─," I started but then Hayden's body pressed harder into mine as his fangs sank into my neck.

I winced, but then a sensation came over me that was stronger than last time. It was my want for him to drink my blood. Suddenly the feeling of his mouth on my neck felt like fire coursing through my body. I realized that this was my heightened emotion.

I didn't know what my feelings for Hayden were until now. I also realized that these were my emotions for him, but they were heightened. I wondered what I used to feel for him now that I realized that I was denying my feelings for him to myself. I also wondered if it was just being marked by him that made me feel like this.

Hayden's tongue reached out and licked the blood from my skin that escaped his bite. It sent chills through my body. I ran my hand up his bare back and into his disheveled jet black hair. Hayden looked up into my eyes. He was aware of what he was doing now and he looked regretful for a second before his desire and longing returned.
