Two days before they could finally be able to leave the hospital, Violet got out of bed and went to her window to look at the street below. All the people, rushing to get to work, and all the new buildings and technology were quite interesting to Violet as she stood there, watching them.
"Violet, can I come in?" She heard a voice say.
"Who is it?" Violet asked, quickly jumping back into her bed, making sure to be careful of her stitches.
"Katie," The person answered.
"Come in," Violet said.
Katie quietly came in, with a big smile on her face, and she quickly shut the door behind her. "Oh, Violet," She said, rushing over to her. "I know you know I like Steve, and I didn't want to talk to anyone else about it... they might laugh at me, but I knew you would understand."
"They wouldn't laugh at you," Violet said. "But I'm glad to help you anytime. What is it?"
"I heard that Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and I made a card for Steve," She smiled. "I don't want him to know it's from me, but I want him to know it was from one of us. I want you to deliver it to him. He's coming to visit tomorrow. Here's the card."
Katie handed a red card to Violet and quickly left the room. Violet looked at the card, it was all dark red, but it had a pink heart on the front. Violet could tell that Katie had made it herself from scraps of paper.
Violet smiled as she read aloud to herself, "Dear Steve, I don't know if you love me, but I love you. I've loved you ever since the day I first met you. Yours Truly, Your Lover."
It was kind of funny, but Violet didn't laugh. She just smiled, and thought it was kind of sweet, but she wasn't very sure about what Steve would think. She couldn't wait to see the look on his face when he read it.
That night, when she was alone, she went to the window again, and pushed the curtains back, to look out at the busy street with cars passing by, and all kinds of lights flashing.
She thought of Bucky, and wondered where he was, and if he was thinking of her. She sighed, and closed the curtains again. She suddenly heard her door creak open and close which made her jump.
"Who's there?" Violet asked, with a quiver in her voice, and her heart started pounding hard and fast in her chest.
"Violet, its Rachael," The person said, and came out from a shadow in the corner of the room.
"What are you doing?" Violet exclaimed, with relief that she was not going to be kidnapped or attacked.
"I'm afraid," She answered.
"Afraid of what?" Violet asked, very surprised and confused, especially because Rachael was actually admitting that she was afraid.
"I know this might sound weird, but there is something watching us," Rachael began, sitting down on Violet's bedside. "I can feel it... every night, it's there. I'm terribly frightened."
"Why'd you come to me?" Violet wondered, getting onto her bed to hear Rachael more clearly.
"Because... I thought that since you were in here alone, you might be afraid too, and I wanted to make sure you were safe," Rachael said, and by the tone in her voice, Violet knew that she meant every word.
"Thank you," Violet smiled. "But you're not supposed to be out of your room, and you can't spend the night in here."
"But Violet, the thing that's been watching us... I'm afraid that it'll get you," Rachael said, and to Violet's surprise, started crying.
