The next morning they woke up around noon, and quickly got their things picked up and in the back of the truck. They had no time to lose. They had to find Loki and get their friends back. They were also worried Loki would strike again and kidnap another one of them.
They got squashed back into the car again, and were off. Sam had stayed up most of the night planning where to go and how to get there, so Steve had to drive as Sam told him where to go.
"Take a left here," Sam said.
Steve turned left and they drove a few miles down another dusty, desert road. "And a right here."
Steve turned right and they continued down that road for what seemed like hours until they came to a random town with a small gas station, so they decided to stop and get gas.
"Why don't we all get out and stretch our legs before we have to leave again?" Steve said.
Everyone quickly got out of the car without even answering him. They did not want to be stuck in there for longer than they had to. "Is there a bathroom?" Katie asked.
"I'll go with her and find out," Violet offered, who really needed to go herself.
"Let me join you," Freya said.
So the three sisters went inside together. It was a nice little store with knickknacks, a small freezer with pop and water, and a few small shelves with candy or chips or something like that.
There was an old man at the front desk alone; he was counting the money he had gotten that day. It didn't look like much.
"I'm sorry to bother you, sir," Katie said. "But my sisters and I were wondering if you had a restroom?"
"Not in here," He said, with a gruff voice. "You'll have to ask one of the villagers."
He spoke with a very strong Spanish accent, so it was a little hard for Katie to understand. "What do you mean you don't have a bathroom in here? We can't just go around knocking on doors saying that we need to use their restroom!" Freya complained.
"Well that's what you'll have to do!" The man shouted, surprising them all, and added with a calmer voice. "Get out unless you're going to buy something."
The sisters looked at each other, still surprised, and a little angry too. "You have to have a restroom somewhere in here," Katie began, but Violet just grabbed her arm to make her stop. It wasn't worth arguing about. They were just going to have to wait.
Katie and Freya left the small building, and jumped back into the car. They were cross and tired and didn't want to be bothered, but Violet stayed and pulled a dollar out of her pocket and put it in front of the man.
"What's this?" He asked, with a little glare.
"Well, I know it might sound silly, but I wanted to pay you for helping us," She said.
"Helping you?" He asked, astonished. "I didn't do anything!"
"But you told us that there wasn't a bathroom here, and that we could ask someone else in the town," Violet said.
"Well, I don't deserve a dollar for that," He said. "Take it and go!"
Violet looked down, and put the dollar back in her pocket. The man put his back to her as he continued counting his money. Violet was about to walk out when she got an idea. She pulled the dollar back out, and put it on the desk while his back was turned and she left.
