The obnoxiously loud alarm on my phone jolted me awake the next morning, reminding me that I was down at the shore for a reason: work. I rolled over and looked at the screen. 6:45. Ugh. I had to get up early so that I could get in the bathroom first before Kylie since she was notorious for taking an hour in there just to shower.

In just under a half hour, I was showered, half dressed and gulping down coffee in the kitchen, trying to shock my system into consciously functioning. I was in the middle of spreading butter on my toast when I heard another alarm go off somewhere in the house and Abby groggily shuffled into the kitchen.

"Hey," she muttered, going through the fridge for the milk to have some cereal.

I laughed as I took another sip of my coffee. "I'm glad to see you're just as much of a morning person as me," I commented.

"Oh yes, very funny," she groaned, pouring some Frosted Flakes into a bowl and slumping down into a chair at the table.

I downed the rest of my coffee and threw the mug into the sink. I went to go back to my room but stopped and put my hands on her shoulder.

"Have fun today!" I said in an overly enthusiastic tone, which was bound to piss her off.

"I hate you, you know that?" she laughed, drinking from her glass of OJ.

I went back into my room and threw on the red polo shirt I had been assigned as my uniform. I was working at the small amusement park on the boardwalk by the beach. It wasn't very big and I think the term 'amusement park' gave it a little too much credit, but I wouldn't really know what else to call it. Kylie also got a job there too, so we were going to be carpooling every day. Needless to say, I was driving.

I was ready in another fifteen minutes, having gotten dressed, tied my hair up in a ponytail so my long brown hair was swinging down  by the bottom of my neck, and made myself look overall suitable for public viewing. I was just waiting for Kylie at this point before we had to be getting into the car and heading off. Expecting to see her at the table, almost ready to go, I walked into the kitchen to find only Carrie and Morgan finishing up their breakfast.

"Where's Kylie?" I asked, throwing my hands into the air.

Both of them shrugged innocently. I sighed and walked down the hallway towards her room. I swung the door open and groaned to see her outline underneath the blanket still, dead asleep.

"Kylie!!" I yelled at her, startling her to consciousness. "What the hell are you doing?!"

"Wha-what time is it?" she asked, dazed and confused.

"Time for you to kick your lazy ass into gear!" I shouted. "You're going to be late, and make me late by extension!"

She jumped up out of her bed faster than if a fire had been lit underneath her.

"Move!" she shouted, pushing past everyone to get to the bathroom.

Morgan came down to where I was standing and stood there with me when she heard the yelling.

"So, it's going well I see?" she said with a laugh.

I just shook my head and smirked. "I'm just going to wait outside."

"Do you want to turn the radio on?" Kylie asked from the passenger seat.

I shook my head. We were both anxious about starting a new job in a completely different place. Despite our excitement that we were getting to be there all summer  and that we would be able to make money while we're at it, we had absolutely no idea what we were getting into. Kylie and I would be working at the park, Carrie was counseling at a soccer camp, Abby was working at an ice cream shop on the boardwalk and Morgan was manning the counter at an arcade. It was all new and uncomfortably unknown.
