Chapter 21
"You don't actually believe him do you?" Emily asks, sounding as if she's annoyed by what I've just told her.
"I dunno Em, he seems pretty serious about it. I came out of that place scratch-free." I shrug.
"Maya, he's a freak!"
"He's also my brother."
"Can you even call him part of your family after all he's put you and your mum through though?"
I sigh, swapping my phone from my right hand to my left. There's this part of me that really wants to forgive him, after all we're the same blood, but then there's that part that agrees with Emily, he's a freak.
"Look this is why I'm ringing you... am I completely stupid for even considering thinking about it?"
"It just seems... a little weird to me, Maya. I mean you know I wouldn't say this if I wasn't concerned for your health and safety, maybe you need someone else's opinion, you know what I mean?"
"I have no one else though, only you. I don't want to drag you in but I can't make this decision myself."
"How about Niall? He put his safety on the line just for yours, maybe you can trust him."
"Emily, I know the guy, what, three months? I can't tell him about that, it's just too hard." I whisper.
"It's been a secret for too long though. There's always going to be this chip on your shoulder if you don't get out there and get your story out there too. All you've had is my advice and I'm not trained in this type of stuff so I'm not really sure of what I'm talking about most of the time, maybe you should tell someone else." She suggests, and I just know she's not sure of what she's even saying now.
"But Niall's not trained in it either,"
"I know, but maybe he's trustworthy and has good advice."
"I don't know..."
"Maya come on, if you don't then I will. If you don't then you'll basically be alone in this, if Russell comes at you what can I do? I'm not even quarter the size of him so I don't think I could stop him. Please, just run it by with Niall?"
"Em..."
"Maya, please."
"But, how do I even do it like? I'm not just gonna be like 'yeah so my brothers cracked in the head and now wants to be my friend, opinions?'. How weird does that sound?"
"No, not like that. I'm talking about you telling him the full story, everything right from the start."
"Everything?" I gasp.
"Everything." She repeats.
"You know I can't do that,"
"I know you can."
"So what... I call him over, sit him down and then drag him into my family mess?"
"When you say it like that it sounds horrible. You're not dragging him in, you're going to ask him what he thinks of it, there's a pretty big difference."
"Emily-"
"Don't even start, you're going to ask Niall." She cuts me off.
"I'm not even home yet." I sigh.
"I know I can hear the wind blowing through your phone. When you get home get some tea and then ring Niall and see if he's free. He'd be more than happy to come over to see you."
"Yeah whatever," I roll my eyes.
"I'll talk to you later, see yah."
"Bye hun."
I'm not doing it. I'm not telling a celebrity my life story, how crazy is that? If anything happened between us the whole world could know my past, because he has that power.
I glance around nervously pulling my keys from my pocket as I come to the entrance of my apartment. I have a feeling that I'm being watched. I know it's crazy but the feeling is really strong. It's like a ghost town out here though so I just shrug and unlock the door.
My keys slip from my grip onto the little worktop of my kitchen. That was a pretty tough day.
"When you get home get some tea and then ring Niall and see if he's free. He'd be more than happy to come over to see you." Emily's words echo through my mind. So, I boil the kettle and set out a mug and tea bag. I can't believe I'm doing this.
The click of the kettles goes and steam floats viciously from the stout. I make my tea, but I drink it as slow as possible, dreading the part that comes after this. No, this is good, this is great. A problem shared is a problem halved right? Well in my case, it'll be in thirds.
The bottom of the mug nears in view. One more gulp and I'd be finished. Do I want to go ahead with this? No. Is it important that I do? Yes. Importance comes before wants, therefore I'm going with this. Damn you Emily.
The remainder of the tea slides down my throat, such a small thing, but such a big step. I puff out, retrieving my phone from my back pocket. Here goes nothing...
The phone rings Niall's number. It's very hard to hear though over the beating of my heart in my ears. I'm incredibly nervous, and this is only the first part of it!
"Hello?" Niall's Irish accent sings.
"Hey, Niall." I greet back, trying my best to sound okay.
"What's up?" He says.
You can do this.
"Would you be able to come over to my place for a bit?" I chew on my lip nervously.
He takes a second to answer, but replies with; "right now?"
"Yeah, please. I just need some company and someone to talk to."
"You're sure it won't be awkward?" He asks hesitantly. Oh.
I completely forgot about what happened last time we talked...
"Uh.. no, no of course not." I laugh awkwardly.
Yes, yes it will be.
"If you're sure..." He trails off.
"Niall, we should just forget that happened, it's not important."
"Oh..." He says, sad and disappointed.
"No don't take it that way! That just came out wrong. What I meant was that it's not important as of now... I need to get your advice on something, something serious."
"I see... I'll be over there soon. See you later." He cuts the line dead.
I'm such a buzz kill. He was all cheery at the start of our conversation and by the end he was liked an emotional robot. I guess I just have that affect on people.
Oh no... he's going to be here, in my home, while I talk about my past, after he told me he really liked me.
This day just got a whole lot tougher.
A/N I'm so terribly sorry! Over a month AGAIN without me updating! I'm finding it so goddamn hard and ugh it's frustrating.
What makes it worse is that I'm getting barely any feedback (people who have commented thank you<3) but please, please, please leave me a comment. I'd write a lot more if people gave me a reason to.
