Gabby Undercover

Chapter: 16

✿Gabby's P.O.V✿

"What the hell--Kev?" I said as soon as I reached Kevin's office. He looked at me from his desk in confusion. He raised his right arm turning it sideways. I knew what that meant, It meant he had no idea what I was talking about.

"Oh-- don't act like you don't know," I crossed my arms over my chest that made my shirt look slight wrinkly. I wasn't dressed up for work, but, I dressed casually in a gray shirt and blue-ripped jeans. To comfort my toes I wore flats. "Why didn't you just tell me you were partnering me up with someone?" I continued.

Not saying anything wasn't an option, he opened his mouth but closed it to change what he wanted to say. "Gabby-- I didn't tell you because .." he pointed to me "this would've happened. I know you want to work alone but, you know damn well that can't happen."

Approaching him, I pulled my hair back. I know Kevin wants to keep me protected especially what happened to Joe. People don't always get a chance to live you know? I calmed myself before sitting down. "I'm sorry Kevin, I wasn't ready for a new partner."

The expression on his face looked like it was saying "I understand Gabby..sorry but, I make the decisions here".

I realized that's exactly what he was saying  after I said "fine."

Kevin nods, walking towards me. "Why don't you get to know him better, after you leave here?" he looked straight into my hazel eyes.

I gave a warm smile, while nodding my head. "I'll send you the information tomorrow?"

"Yeah." he patted my shoulders lightly before I walked out of his office.

Once I reached my car, I moved to the driver's seat and sat there looking at the streets. The weather wasn't sure if it wanted to be cold. I could feel the hint of spring coming by. A cool breeze ran in my car window making me shiver. My sweater was in the passenger's seat so I grabbed it and put it on.

Before I could put my key in the ignition, I heard a familiar voice.

"Gabby!" 

Damion caught up to my car. I had no choice but to roll my windows back down.

He breathed heavily like he was running a million  miles. "I thought you were gonna pull off, since you hate me now." his blue eyes peered into mine. Looking into his eyes is amazing.

"Because you cheated on me more than once." I furrowed my eyebrows to him. Within seconds I found myself playing with my fingers.

"I said I was sorry. I was drunk and angry at the same time that night." He blocked my window with his arms. "I'm not here just to talk about us--I just want to see how your kicking in since Joe died."

"I'm fine. Thanks for checking in." A fake smile was all I gave him.

I tried rolling up my windows but I failed by Damion's hands caught on the windows. "Gabby look-- I'm not here to keep starting over with you. I want another chance..as..friends at least."

The look on his face was serious and scary at the same time. I wasn't sure if we could be friends.

I realized I was thinking for awhile because Damion snapped his fingers at me like a lost girl.

"Damion--" I opened my mouth.

"I know..I know.." He stood up with his hands in his Jean pocket and turned away before walking to where he was before.

I felt bad now even though he crushed my heart and I had to take it in. Maybe he's different Now. I think I should give him a chance,I thought.
