⚠️DON'T READ IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE!!!⚠️

"I'll see you."

Their entire conversation had been implanted in her brain since it happened. It was like someone had tattooed it on her body. She could still hear his voice, clear as day. She still remembered the look on his face. She still remembered every word.

She pulled onto the gravel road quietly. Not that there was anyone to disturb, now. They were gone.
He was gone.

She exited her car and walked towards the unfinished building.
It was just a few wall frames and beams, by now, but that didn't change anything.
It meant so much more.

"Yvonne has family in Maine. It's a small town."

"You like those."

She remembers covering up her tears with a laugh. She knows it didn't fool him. He could see right through her.

"We both do, um, so...We're gonna start our family there."

She was happy for them. She was happy they got out of this town and were safe. At least, that's what she told herself.

"That sounds perfect."

It did sound pretty nice. New town, completely safe. She would probably never get to live that dream.

"Nothing's ever perfect. But this is really close."

After she broke up with Caleb, she almost hoped that something would happen between Toby and Yvonne. That something would go wrong. Because then, she would never have to deal with this. She could tell him how she feels, and they would live happily ever after, or however that's supposed to go.

But 'hope' is a dirty four letter word.

She wanted to say something.
But she couldn't. She could barley breathe.
She wanted to run after him when he went out the door.
But she didn't.
Why didn't she?

"Goodbye."

She found herself in a larger room in the middle of the open house.
No walls. No ceiling, no floor. Barely anything, but she needed to be here. She didn't know why.
She didn't understand.

"I was building it for you."

She collapsed to the ground. There was that feeling again. The feeling that she was totally incapable of doing anything. She recognized it from when Toby left. It became even more familiar when she realized she had felt it a time before that.
When she had found his body in the woods.
She still had nightmares about that night; walking through the forest, coming upon the body with the unmistakable tattoo, hearing Mona yell to her and waking up drenched in sweat.

She started to sob.

It was all too real. Thinking of Toby being dead. Him leaving with Yvonne; after confessing the house was for her. She couldn't control herself.
She couldn't block out the voice in her head, clearly stating the truth.

You're in love with him.

She was hyperventilating now, her heart speeding up in a dangerous way. She knew how to deal with panic attacks, considering the amount she'd had, but this was different. She had no way to control what she was doing, and if she didn't stop soon, she would pass out. Who would find her? Who would come look for her?

No one.

She was drowning.

Suddenly, she bobbed up for air.
She could breathe again.
Her head was clear.
Clear, except for one thing.

Toby.

He was here.
He was holding her.
He had come back.

Toby couldn't just leave without saying goodbye. If he couldn't tell Spencer to her face everything he had intended to say, he could say it to the house.
Spencer's car was out front.
Was she here?
He walked into the house. The way it had been left made it look more broken then unfinished. He found her on the ground of what was going to be their living room. She was crying. Bawling. She looked like she was in more pain than he had ever seen her.
He immediately rushed to her side and engulfed her in his arms, holding her tighter then was probably necessary. "Shhh, you're okay. You're alright Spencer. Everything is going to be okay. I'm here."

He was here. He was actually here.
Just that made her cry even more, this time, out of exhaustion and pure, unadulterated happiness.

He held her until her breathing was no longer labored, long after she had stopped crying. She slowly drew herself away from him, not looking him in the eye, before he pulled her right back against him, never wanting to let her go.

When they finally did let go, Spencer noticed Toby, too, had silent tears streaming down his face. She placed her hands on his cheeks, wiped away his falling tears and boldly pressed her lips to his.

She thought she was dreaming.
But, this was real.

She stopped kissing him to just admire the fact that he was here and this was real. This was really, real.
She grinned. He did the same.

Hope.
