Nothing is said in the car. Nothing is done either. There's no music playing. But my thoughts are louder than ever. And I can't handle it. I need to talk to someone about this. But not my mom. I consider calling Ashton, but I know he'll panic. If I call Calum, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't know what to say. So that leaves Luke. I fish my phone out of my pocket and unlock it with sweaty hands. I then tap Luke's contact and hope he'll pick up.

"Hemmings", I hear.

"I still don't get why you pick up with only your last name", I retort.

"It's nice to speak to you too Michael!", his voice is thick with sarcasm.

"Down with the sarcasm Hemmings."

"Maybe I wouldn't pick up with only my last name if you stopped calling me Hemmings. How'd it go at the doctor's?", he asks genuinely interested in the answer.

"Yeah... About that. There are some "abnormalities" in my blood. We're on our way to the hospital. The oncology department in particular...", I say with a hint of tension in my voice. Luke's best subject is biology, he'll know what oncology is right?

"Oncology? Are you sure Michael?", the shock in his voice is evident.

"That's what the doctor said. We'll be meeting with a haematologist and an oncologist. More will be explained when there. I hate to admit it, but fuck I'm scared."

"Do you need me to come? Cause I will if you want me to", Luke tells me.

"No Luke, it's okay. I'll be fine, right?", I ask myself more than him.

"Of course you will. You're gonna be just fine Mikey", he tries to reassure me. Hah. It's funny that I'm the one needing reassurance now while before I was convinced this was nothing and was trying to reassure my mom.

"We're here now, I gotta go", I tell him reluctantly.

"Alright. Keep me updated, yeah? I'll talk to Calum and Ashton. Thanks for calling", he says like I called for him when I obviously called because I needed someone.

"I will, no problem, bye", we hang up and I walk into the hospital with my mom. We get into the elevator and I'm not even kidding when I say that everything seems to be going in slow motion. I thought it was a cliché they only used in movies and books. But the elevator ride takes forever and the off white corridors seem endless. Until we finally end up in an office. One woman and one man in front of me. The woman introduces herself as the haematologist, doctor Costello. I like her already. Half of her hair is a screaming red/orange colour and the other half is black. I like red on myself, but my hair is currently green. The man introduces himself as Doctor Joseph, he seems a bit awkward but I guess his first impression is alright. I'm glad they're not old. Not that I have something against old people. I love my grandma. I guess I must've zoned out, cause I snap back into reality when my name is called repeatedly.
