Delilah made an appointment to see Dr. Evans . The decision was made to have the surgery in late October to remove the scar tissue. Cole would be done touring and he wanted to be there with her. She would need to heal for 6 weeks before they moved on to the next phase of the treatment.
Summer flew by in the blink of an eye. Delilah spent her time in the store or out on the road with Cole. The album was a hit. He had three number ones in no time it seemed like. His fan base was growing. They were singing along to his songs every night when he took the stage and he ate it up. She was so incredibly proud of her husband. She beamed every time she watched him step up to the mic.
Two days before the surgery....October 2014
Delilah was cutting up an apple when Cole walked into the kitchen. "An apple?" He asked getting a beer from the fridge.
"It sounded good." She laughed.
He jumped up on the counter and took a pull from his bottle. "I didn't say anything."
"Sure." She popped a piece into her mouth. "Your mom called earlier."
"What did she say?"
"She wanted to know if we wanted her here for the surgery."
Cole swallowed the beer that was in his mouth. "What did you tell her?"
"That I would ask you." She put another piece of apple into her mouth. She went to the fridge and got out the strawberries, blueberries and yogurt. "I want a smoothie. You want one?"
He watched her cut up the strawberries and drop them into the blender. "Can you get me a banana?" He heard her voice quiver.
He downed his beer before jumping down off the counter. He snagged her around the waist. "Lila..."
"What?" She refused to look at him.
"Look at me." He tilted her chin so he could see the tears in her eyes.
"I'm fine..."
"No you're not." He said softly. "Baby, talk to me. Tell me what's goin through your mind." He turned her in his arms.
She looked up at him. "I'm scared."
"Of what?" He asked.
"Of this not working. Of not being able to get pregnant. Of letting you down. Of us falling apart. Of losing you." It all rushed out in a jumble. Cole felt his heart shatter as he looked at his crying wife.
"Oh baby...." He held her tight as her tears hit the front of his shirt. "We have to think positive. And we aren't goin to fall apart. You're not ever gonna let me down. And as far as losing me.... I'm not goin nowhere. I love you. Only you. You are it for me." He kissed her mouth. "I love you, do you hear me?"
She nodded. "I love you too."
"Now... no more tears right now. Make a smoothie and let's go watch a movie."
"Can we go sit on the deck?"
"Anything you want." He kissed her head. "I'm gonna go call mama back."
"K."
Cole closed the door of his office. "Hey mama."
"Hey, darlin. What are you up to?" Betty asked.
"Nothin...Lils said you called earlier."
"Yea just checkin. Wanted to see if ya'll wanted me to come in for her surgery."
"Naa. I'll call you when she's in recovery..."
"What's wrong?"
"Nothin."
