"Okay students today is the last day of the quarter, and I want you to put all of your assignments here," Mr. White says, patting a lab table. "One pile per person please, and you can also pile your lab notebooks on my desk."
Everyone then progresses to the designated assignment table. There are a number of looks in this crowd of students. Looks of worry and sadness, presumably because of unfinished assignments, and also looks of happiness. That is my look at this moment, only because I was up unti three-in-the-morning finishing all of my work; consequently, I'm a bit tired, but I don't care because my weekend will be great.
NO HOMEWORK!!! MWAAHAHA!
AND NO GROUNDINGS! MWAH!
I then journey to Mr. White's desk after I place my assignments neatly on the table. There's a long line of students there, no doubt telling him some sob-stories. Whether or not they are true, Mr. White takes pity on them. "Okay, I'll will give you all till the end of the day." Half of the students break out into cheers. As I hand him my lab notebook, he smiles and says, "Finished?" I nod in response. "Great!"
Danielle follows close behind me, also handing Mr. White her probably impeccable notebook. I look for my best friend Sabrina, as she is not in line. I see her at a lab table. Her nose literally is almost touching the table as she works intently on her physics worksheets. I can tell she's frazzled. I turn to her sister, she's about to walk away to her desk to work on what looks to be her English homework. I give her a quick tap on the shoulder before she retreats. "Danielle," I call.
"Hmm?"
"What's wrong with your sister?" I ask quizically.
"She didn't finish," she says nodding to her with a look that could have been pity, but also could have been indifference.
As I meander along to the lab table Sabrina is at, Brendon comes along asking if he can borrow my worksheets.
"No, Brendon, I will not be labeled as a cheater." I say, scowling at him. He groans and walks away.
When I arrive at her table, I can almost see smoke coming off the end of her pencil.
"Hey, how come you didn't finish?" I ask.
"Because I have no idea what's going on in any of these assignments," she says not even looking up at me.
"Why didn't you ask Dani for help?"
"She wouldn't have helped me," Sabrina says, coldly. I roll my eyes at this remark.
She would have if you asked, smart one. I keep my thoughts to myself. Stressing her out now would not be very nice.
I leave her to her death sentence and sit in the desk next to Danielle. She closes her english textbook and says, "Hi, Luckary!" in her usual friendly tone, with her usual friendly smile. Don't get me wrong though. Danielle isn't always happy. Cross her and she'll eat you for breakfast.
She's pretty awesome.
"Sup," I say casually.
"Nothin' much," she responds. We chat about marching band for a few minutes. Ahh yes. Marching band. Best thing in the whole world. First we talk about oboes. Danielle despises them, but I personally like them if they are played well. Then we talk about tubas.
"Tuba!!!" I yell in a deep voice.
"I take it that you like tubas?" Mr. White comments. I nod at him excitedly.
He laughs, but then his face turns serious. "You look tired. Use this time to catch up on some sleep."
"Great idea!" Danielle then returns to her English, and I lie my head on the desk, slowly drifting off to sleep.
