I stood outside waiting for Paul to come out of the lockerroom. I was so proud of them. They had won against the Okland Raiders 20-55.
The door opened and there were cheers and applause from the families waiting. Paul was one of the first few to come out.
I waited patiently while everyone congratulated him on the win. He walked over to me and kissed me softly.
"Good game" I told him, as I adjusted my jacket. "Thanks, are you cold?" Before I could answer he was already wrapping his jacket around me.
I sniffled my nose. "I don't want you to get sick" I told him. "I'm from Idaho, I can deal with the cold weather"
I hugged him. "I talked to your mom.." I told him, as I leaned against the wall. "What did she say?" "She said Erica isn't doing so well"
He frowned. "She said she wish she could've been here, but with Erica being so upset she needs to be there with her."
"I really need to go see her" Paul said. "Yeah, I know she would be happy to see you." He intertwined our fingers.
"Let's just go find Jessica and Tony" he said as we walked through the stadium's many hallways. "I'm happy he's a good sport, or there would be a fight in the middle of the street" I joked.
"Yeah, and we did beat them pretty bad" he chuckled. We found Tony and Jessica standing in the parking lot.
"We've been waiting for you two forever!" Jessica exclaimed. I ignored the scattered paparazzi around the lot.
"Ray was having one of his speeches again..Long-winded as usual" Paul stated.
"This is my cousin you're talking about" I responded. "I know, I'm just joking." I went and gave Jessica a hug.
"How is Alex and Alyson?" I questioned, referring to her son and daughter.
"Alex is doing great. We're finally getting some rolls on him. And Alyson is happy and energetic as usual."
I smiled. "That's great to hear." "How is everything going with little Zion? I heard about the little scare today.." "Everything is fine, it was just some gas cramps. But I just want to see his cute little face already! The ultrasounds don't do him justice!" I joked.
She laughed along. "We all know he's going to have his father's great looks" Paul interrupted.
"You are so conceited." "I saw your pictures in Glamour Magazine, They were amazing.. until I saw Paul" she joked.
"Let's shift this conversation to a different subject" I started. I didn't want to remember Lyndsey leaving with Darrell that day.
I hadn't heard from her since then, and I was getting concerned. She was never at home, and she never answered her phone.
We started walking to our cars. "Where are you going to eat?" Jessica asked us. I looked at Paul, waiting for him to answer.
"I really didn't plan on going out tonight." I could understand he was a little tired from rushing me to the hospital, then coming back to M&T Bank for the game.
"Did'nt you want to have a movie night at least?". "If everyone else wants to then I'm fine with it.." He looked at me.
"Is it a scary movie?" i asked.
A loud bang cut the silence and I shrieked. "Alright! I'm done with scary movie night!" I said getting up. Someone paused the movie. I turned on the lights.
"It hasn't even got to the good part yet!" Tony argued. "I really don't care! It's 11:30 I'm going to bed." Paul stood up and stretched.
"It is getting late" he yawned. "Once Zion comes you're going to be up a lot later then this" Jessica informed.
She continued. "The first week is going to be smooth, and then comes the crying." "How often did your children wake you up?" I inquired.
"3-4 times a night, Sometimes it seems like they cry forvever." "Oh..Well I guess I'm just going to get some sleep while I can."
I was due in March. So I wasn't worried about that yet. It couldn't be that bad right? I wrapped my hair and climbed into bed.
I didn't know how tired I was unto my head hit the pillow and then I was out like a light.
I woke up the next morning and Paul wasn't laying there. There was shuffling coming from the soon to be nursery. It was like rustling paper.
I rubbed my eyes and sat up. I put on my slippers and walked to the nursery where the sound was coming from.
I walked in on Paul painting the nursery. "Hey daddy" I grinned. He turned around. "Hey mama". His white v-neck and dark washed jeans were splotched with the pastel blue paint.
"Why are you up so early?" I questioned. It was only like 7:00. "I just felt like doing something today. And I knew this was on the agenda. Just thought I would get it out of the way now".
I leaned against the door. "When did Jessica and Tony leave?". "Like an hour ago" He told me painting the wall.
I left the room and took my shower. I went downstairs where Diesel and Cain were eating. I made an omelet, and I was going to make food for Paul until I saw he had already eaten. The dirty dishes in the sink helped me draw the conclusion. I went ahead and washed them and put them in the rack.
I took my shower and changed into some other clothes. Then I went back into the nursery to help Paul.
"Hand me a brush" I commanded.
"I got this" he said, brushing me off. I put my hand on my hip. "I just want to paint a little". He got down from the ladder.
"I'm even dressed for the part!". I gestured to my tattered sweater, old blue jeans and orange low cut trainers.
He handed me a paint roller. I took it from him and dipped it in the paint. "Now, watch and learn". I applied the paint gently.
"You're going way too slow". "It will turn out better if you don't rush it" I argued. He removed the roller from my hand and dipped it in the paint.
"Watch and learn" he mocked. He rolled the paint onto the wall. "Oh you're so amazing!". He flexed his muscles.
"I know right?". I took the brush took it and flicked some paint on him. "You want to play that game do you?".
I put the brush down. "Yeah, What are you going to do about it?". He laughed and shook his head. "What? You scared?"I teased, pushing him slightly.
"You're like 4'3, why would I be scared of you?". "So you're pulling the height card, huh?".
"Yeah and?". I snatched the brush back and we continued painting.
We could've gotten someone else to do it. But I'm happy we didn't. It it was some great alone time.
We talked, joked around and had fun. Just the two of us. And soon to be three.
