The heat, that's what hit me first as I stepped out of Ngurah Rai Airport. My clothes clung to my skin as the sticky breeze blew.

"Its so hot" I whined as my Dad struggled to get a cab. The heat along with the crowd was not at all helping.

"Cume with me madam" A driver beckoned and I rolled my eyes at my moms pleas to ignore him.

After what seemed like an eternity we had finally got a cab. But like every other car here, it was a minivan. We piled in along with our luggage and there on began a journey I would remember forever, Bali.

"You must see Taman Ayun" the driver droned on as my eyes captured everything passing by. The greenery, the stars, the wind, everything leading me to believe that I was in fact in another country, a whole different world.

"And what else is there to see?" My mom asked eagerly. The driver now even more thrilled from moms interest began in a hurry. Temples, beaches and everything to see.

I picked up a pamphlet with a picture of the most beautiful sunset on it. This was Bali.

The night grew darker as we approached our destination, The Kana, Kuta.

I stepped out of the sir conditioning into the gateway framed with bamboos. It gave a feeling of freedom, that anything could happen here. The gateway to someplace different.

The streetlight shine through a gap and something glittered. A ring on my ring finger, the only reminded of you. But you're not here now. And maybe you never were.

I was here, in a different timezone, a different world and if you didn't care then you never did.

I shoulder my bag and stepped inside what would be my sanctuary for the next days to come. And hopefully when I would be leaving I would leave you and your memory behind.
