His eyes held amusement at my surprised expression.
Moments ago I was mourning about being average and he had magically appeared and shoot me a smile. Although I didn't want it be that way, I thought that that would be it. He really had no reason to make any efforts regarding me. But he did.
"Hi." I replied, it was short but what more could I say? I honestly had no idea where this was going and by the look on his face I realized he didn't have a plan either. I smiled. That seems to ease him a little and he took out his phone to check the time before looking up at me.
"Do you...maybe want to go to the nearby subway? To talk. There's still another 20 minutes of lunch." He seems to register what he was saying and he quickly added "You don't have to come. I didn't even introduce myself; I'm James, Jameson Dorchester."
I glance back at the office and pondered whether the offer was still up.
"I'm Avery, and subway sounds good." The look of relief that embraces his features made me smile again. We walk out of the school's main doors and head to the small subway at the corner of the busy street. Upon arrival we both automatically went straight for the table at the back of the room by the window. Once seated across from him I took in his appearance.
He had wavy golden hair and his skin which is a light cream color, looked beyond smooth. Not to mention those amazing green eyes. But even so he still managed to looked simple. I realize I had never seen him before.
"Are you new in town?" I ask and he nod.
"My parents and I moved here a month ago with my aunt and her family."
"Is today your first day?" Thinking back to the lunch room it would be really doubtful. A guy couldn't possibly have gained so much friends in just a few hours.
"Nope but yesterday was." He grin at my disbelieving look. "In case you're wondering, which I'm sure you are, those guys were my siblings and cousins. They don't exactly count as friends."
I imagined seven teenagers living in a single house and grimace. I honestly felt sorry for the poor house.
"So you wanted to talk about something?" I till my head to the side in confusion. There was nothing he could have planned to talk to me about, I didn't even know the guy.
He gives me a blank stare then smirks, an adorable small dimple imprint his left cheek. "Aren't we already talking about something?"
I open my mouth to protest but quickly shut it. There was no way I could say anything without proving his point. His smirk broadens in victory before he answers my question properly, stuttering a bit.
"In all honesty I had nothing in mind to talk about. I- I saw a pretty girl and thought 'why not go talk to her?' And sort of winged it." He cheeks tinge pink and I look out the window and mulling over his words and letting them sink in.
He thinks I'm pretty.

The rest of the school day went by smoothly. I would notice him in some of my classes and in the always and wave in acknowledgement. He'd grin back. It was moments like these that would leave me with a grin of my own and I was glad I met Jameson. Even though I am just an average brunette he found me interesting enough to talk to and that should count as something.
