June never knew why the drunk had crashed into them, as Artesia had removed the memory when she awakened her child, as she saw no reason to torture the woman farther, after having lost her two beautiful children because of it. Also, she wanted Kevin to stay with her, and she felt if June relived what had happened on that night, it would most assuredly have pulled their marriage apart –instead of moving them on in a positive direction, by having more children.
But what did happen...? Well, seconds before the drunk had ploughed into her at a crazy speed, head on, Paul, the soon to be 4 year old, cranky out of tiredness, had thrown a hard toy he was playing with in his chair in the back, right at his mother’s head. And it was in those few seconds of confusion which had sealed their faith, because even in that insignificant amount of time, June had looked away from the road.
What would have destroyed the marriage, the Angel felt, having read Kevin’s thoughts when she entered the room the first time? Her husband would have told June, over and over, and over again, he would have acted differently, given the same circumstances.
But following that, Artesia was even more amazed, when God relented to the mortal woman’s wishes. Because she truly believed as an Angel, she had seen everything –but that had taken her fully by surprise. But she had to admit, she was delighted, God had given her, her deepest of wishes; even if it was a hard one to make.
