Lukas apparently ended up to be someone that Odessa’s parents sent to look after her because they deemed Brennen unworthy. He wasn’t a very chatty person; he just sat at the table, unmoving, rejecting any food that we offered him.

“So what do you think we’re doing today?” I asked as we finished up our breakfast. Clara shrugged.

“Maybe going into the mines?” She suggested. I shrugged. It was 8:45 currently, so we had a lot of time to kill.

“Maybe, do you think Easton will go with us?” Odessa asked.

“Probably not, with his sickness and everything.” Brennen replied sarcastically. Clara huffed.

“I told you, he’s probably not sick.” She said. A victorious look came over Brennen’s face.

“So you admit it!” He exclaimed.

“No! I only said that he probably isn’t sick.” Clara defended herself.

“Right, he wouldn’t be a flake if he lies about being sick.”

“Shut up!” Clara sulked, realizing that she lost the argument.

“Anyone want seconds?” Brennen asked as he stood up.

“Oh please, what is this, fifths for you?” Odessa scolded. He scoffed.

“No. More like sixths.” He grumbled going back up to the buffet despite the cooks sending him glares.

“I really hope that he has to leave.” Clara said bitterly. Odessa and I laughed as she crossed her arms.

“Hey Lukas, do you mind if you go back up to the room with me? I forgot my phone.” Odessa said suddenly, standing up as well.

“Absolutely.” Lukas said quickly, getting up and following her out the door.

“What do you think the deal is with him?” Clara asked, nodding her head towards their retreating forms.

“No idea. Everyone just seems off here.” I replied evasively.

“Like..?” She trailed off.

“Well, Eli for one, he’s just too nice. Easton for second, he’s definitely not sick. Then Lukas just magically shows up saying that he’s there to watch over Odessa. It just doesn’t all add up.” I pondered.

“Hey, I’m not here to ask questions. Just to find the emerald.” Clara said as Brennen makes his way back to our table.

Odessa’s Point of View

As soon as Lukas and I entered the room I whirled around. “I’ve seen you before.” I remarked slowly.

“And I’ve seen you.” He countered.

“Last night… I had a dream. And you were in it.”

“And may I inquire to what it was about?”

“You saved me.”

“That’s my job.” He affirmed.

“But it was different. We were in the mines.”

“Are you certain?”

“Positive.” I assured. “My parents didn’t send you, did they?” I continued.

“Maybe, maybe not.” He smirked. “You’re different, Odessa.” He went on.

“So are you.” I commented. He chuckled.

“Yes, perhaps more than you. Did you find what you were looking for?” His brown eyes sparkled knowingly.

“Yes.” I replied, leading him out of the room. I had brought him up here to answer questions, but somehow only more entered my mind.
