Luke watched Emery Devine walk away from him in her tall leather boots. Her curly burnt red hair bounced behind her as she stepped across the street.
He brought his arm up to scratch the back of his neck "Emery Devine" he laughed with a smile "Emery...Devine.." the more he said her name the more his mind traveled "oh shit" his hand fell from his neck "Michael's, Emery Devine..how did I miss that?" He asked himself, starting his walk down the sidewalk losing his appetite for coffee.
Luke has been friends with Michael Clifford for about a year now. They met each other the first day of Uni at a Poetry Society stand during one of the club fairs for incoming freshman. They had got to talking about literature and writing when he mentioned his girlfriend Em was really into that kind of stuff.
Recently Michael invited Luke to one of the many college parties held off campus, solely so he could introduce the love of his life to Luke.
But a few beers and a countless number of shots later, he would be introducing his ex to Luke.
Michael of course didn't deal with their break up with the amount of grace Luke had seen Emery portray this morning. He spent his days in his dark dorm room hiding under the covers of his twin sized bed while listening to My Heart Will Go On by Céline Dion.
Almost as if the universe was giving him a sign, his phone rang with a call from none other than Michael Clifford.
Luke sighed and answered his phone while walking down the sidewalk "hey Mike" he said.
"Hey" Michael replied "are you still out?"
"Yeah, did you need something?"
"Can you pick up another gallon of ice cream?" He asked with a wine.
"Alright look Clifford, this whole thing is your own damn fault and I'm sick of you moping around in self pity" Luke broke out the tough love and gave it to him straight "if you don't like how things ended, then why don't you just talk to her?"
The other end of the line was silent for a moment "but she hates me..and she deserves better–"
"You're right, so why try?" Luke cut in.
"W-what?"
"Why even bother talking to her? You already know she's not going to take you back, so move on" he decided to change his tone of voice to a more sympathetic sound.
Michael sighed into the phone "you're right Hemmings..."
"Yeah, I know I'm right–" Luke's response was interrupted by someone bumping into his shoulder, he took his phone away from his ear "hey, watch where you're going!" He yelled back to the black haired boy "sorry Mike" Luke returned to his phone call.
The distracted stranger gave Luke a frightened look. His blonde hair and short temper made him the typical jock who always got what he wanted, in the boys mind at least. With that being said he kept his head down and continued on his way.
His phone vibrated in his hand causing him to look down to its screen, there was a text from Emery.
Emery: Calum, when you get back can we talk?
Calum: About what?
Emery: ...you already know...
Calum sighed.
Calum: Em, Michael isn't worth your time
Emery: I know but I can't help it, Calum I loved him..you can't just stop loving someone with the snap of your fingers
