It was January 2, 1990. Spike flew into Holy Cross Mission airstrip on time. This time he had a bigger plane because the air was thinner at 1500 feet above sea level. Margaux, Gary, and his parents were waiting. Accompanying them were Father Anthony and Father Smith. Lisa and David rode up on mopeds.
Spike examined his plane, saying that he caught a machine gun round in his wing. Since the rounds only grazed his plane, he judged it safe for take off.
Lisa and Margaux smiled, throwing their arms around each other. Neither one had had any doubt that they both had men, who loved them without reservation. These were the men they would marry.
"Oh, Lisa, I am so happy for you and David. I regret being in such danger here that I have to escape from Liberia and my slave master. But know that I love you, Lisa. I always loved being in your company."
"Margaux, you are ever in my prayers. I thank God every day that my David was such a jerk, and I had enough self-respect to make him grow up fast. Your ordeal is coming to an end at last. If we cannot meet again, know that my life is so much better because you were in it. Truly I love you as a dear friend."
Gary and David also hugged each other good-by. They both confessed that they never would have guessed that in a short time that they both would be in love with two of the best women ever. They marveled that the loves of their lives were so well suited for them. They wished each other such good fortune and pledged to be friends always.
Although Sam and Hilary did not know the details of Lisa's checkered past, Hilary also guessed that Lisa had once had a hard way to go, but she admired the woman she had become.
So Margaux's surrogate family and her friends stood on the grass airstrip until Spike's plane carried them well out of site. They turned to each other and remarked that they were worried about their safe flight with hostile ground fire. But Spike said that he would deviate from his original plans in the interest of safety. He flew in the direction of Voinjama and then cut south toward Monrovia. To fool anyone Aziz may have placed to watch Spriggs-Payne Airport, he dropped off Gary and his mother at Roberts Port.
Once on the ground, Sam and Hilary returned to Buchanan while Gary and Margaux returned to his apartment instead of hers. She said that she had to risk reporting to Abed's office to allay suspicion that anything was wrong. She had to pretend that she was going through with meeting Sam at Roberts Field where Abed's fake security agents and immigration officials would again take their tickets and make Sam believe that he was in serious trouble.
Gary had to go to the Peace Corps office while Margaux went in with him to ask about working up in Bolahun with the basketball project with Lisa and David. Gary went to make sure he had permission to go. That served to cover her real intent to escape Liberia.
Margaux had not returned to her apartment. At some point she would have to risk it. Her meeting with her monster of a boss would give her a better idea of whether it was safe to go there. She needed a dress suited to travel. That is, she had to make Abed believe she was going to the airport. Sam had actually paid for reservations on a certain flight out of Roberts Field.
So Abed knew thought that Sam was falling into his trap as the other men had. Margaux met up with Gary to go to her apartment with her. It seemed safe enough.
It would be a few hours before Sam would meet them at Gary's apartment. Margaux and Gary decided to make love one more time before she had to leave country.
"Marge," Gary said as he reached his loving arms around her, "Never would I have thought that I would be so in love as at this moment. Every day that passes finds me loving you more and more. I love you so much."
"Oh, Gary, all of my life I have been without someone to love me. There you were. I had not dared to take a chance on a man. I had to be so cautious. Peace Corps had been here for years. Several had spoken to me, but that day we met was the first time I ever took a chance on a man."
"You were so sweet that I took a chance on being totally honest upfront." Margaux took Gary's hands an placed them on her breasts. "They are aching for you loving hands. Feel them, nibble on them." She then removed his shirt and place her warm cheek on his chest. She took her hands and ran them over his abs. "Gary get me so aroused that I fly out today so satisfied that it will hold me until once again we are in each oher's arms."
Gary reached around her back and unclasped her bra and it fell revealing her incredible breasts. They lay down on the bed. Their love was so sweet as they joined together. One body and one spirit. They understood their needs there. It was a lovely symphony of two bodies' gentle movements to the utter satisfaction of each other. She sat on Gary with the grace of a Greek goddess, a mermaid overlooking a harbor. It was physical love in motion. Their bodies coordinated in such perfect harmony that they reached a seismic intensity, a peak of pleasure that neither had known before. In a moment they were void of everything but love and devotion for each other.
"Oh, Gary, it's almost as if we were married."
"Today will pale next to what we are going to share after we wed. Our spirits and bodies will know pleasures undreamed--because all obstacles to our happiness will be put aside.
They then cleared out Margaux's apartment, leaving the lion's share of her plush furniture. "If I get a chance, I will have it cleared out. You earned everything here having to use your body."
So with everything in her Mercedes, Margaux and Gary left for his apartment where they would pack.
Margaux grew more excited the longer they took. Soon she would leave this land. Not that she did not love it in Liberia. But for Abed Aziz, her life would have been hard but wonderful.
At last they had unloaded and Margaux arranged to have her car garaged. She could not give Gary a power of attorney. She had the title in another friend's name. Then Margaux went to the file cabinet where she had put her passport.
It was gone.
Margaux broke down in hysterics. "My God, Gary, Abed Aziz has been here. We are in danger. If he has found my passport, he will catch on fast. He will know that I had plans to flee the country."
Margaux the broke down in hysterics. "My God, Gary! Not Abed again! I can't take his hands on me again! I'd rather die than let that monster rape me again! Oh, God! Where is God, my maker, who gives songs on the night to those beaten down and oppressed? God, have mercy!"
Gary grabbed Margaux by the shoulders and pulled her convulsing, frightened body to.him. "Marge, it's me, Gary!" He held her tight until her tremors subsided. "I'm here. If I have to die to keep him away from you, I will!"
Gary closed his loving arms around a sobbing Margaux. "Life's full of uncertainty, but my love is unmistakable." She buried her head in his strong shoulder.
At length Margaux' s trembling ceased. Her breathing became normal.
At that moment Sam and Hilary drove up in a rental car. Gary met them at the street. He acted like he was being called over to them. In a loud voice, he said, "Sir? Where did you say you wanted to go?"
Gary then made himself look nonchalant while his voice betrayed near panic. "Dad? Mom? Abed has taken Margaux's passport. He knows she is going to try to escape."
"Meet us at Diana's Restaurant. Wait for both of us there. There's a guy next door who will drive Margaux's car in another direction while we take a taxi. Meanwhile we will take a taxi or two until we can join you."
In an hour a friend had left Margaux's car a few blocks from the Peace Corps Hostel. They each took a packed bag.
Sam said, "I will go on to Spriggs-Payne Airport. I will give Spike enough money to bribe the control tower again to show a bogus flight plan and then fly us to Freetown, Sierra Leone. Gary, the Peace Corps has your passport. You may have to wait a day or so to get out of country with Margaux."
"Manfred will put us up at the Peace Corps Hostel and will be able to drive away any of Abed's thugs who show up if they suspect we are there."
Gary's parents then got up and made for Spriggs-Payne where they connected with Spike, who was able to pull off the ruse. Within half a day Gary's parents were safe in Freetown. They called the Peace Corps Hostel to tell Margaux and Gary that they were safe.
