It was but 4:00 a.m. when Margaux rolled over and kissed the back of Gary's neck.
"Gary, my love, I know it's early, but could we talk?"
"Marge, oh how I love hearing that from the most beautiful girl that I have ever known."
"You won't like what I have to say, Gary."
"Marge." Gary rolled over to the middle of the bed and pulled back the sheet. "God, you are so lovely, your body so enamoring." He nestled his face between her breasts and chewed lightly on her lovely nipples. "Isn't it enough that we are in love with each other?"
"Gary, you were so sweet not push me to share all the details of my sleazy life. But for your own protection and mine, you gotta know more about me now."
Gary put his arm around her. She then faced away from him, but she took his warm hands and pressed them against her bare breasts. "Oh, Gary, please understand that no one has ever loved me in the romantic sense. Men usually just want my body. How I tingled in anticipation when you entered me, and how ecstatic I felt closing myself around you. Last night was as if I had been giving you my virginity?"
"Marge, you are the only woman that I have ever loved, and you're everything a man could want. Everything."
"It's is time to know all about me. Will you listen to me?"
"Yes, my love." He kissed her neck. "I'm listening."
"Gary, in the last few years I've been deep into marriage scams. We use advertisements, letters, some new thing called email, and chat with mature men on overseas telephones. We even use a new thing called car phones, but they're so cumbersome that I don't think that they'll last very long."
Margaux paused for Gary to soak in what she had said. She pulled his hands tighter.
"Go on, Marge. I love you, and that's all that matters."
"Gary, it can take months to get a man to confide in me, to trust me. Sometimes all I have to do is get them to like me and tell them that I have financial needs. They then wire me money. If a guy is really well-off, I encourage him to visit me in Monrovia. Out of every ten invites, five of them will show up here in Liberia."
"What else, Marge?"
"They so think that I am in love and ready to leave country with them to get married. Usually I have my client make the airplane reservations for the two of us. This tips off Aziz when we are leaving. When we show up at Roberts Field with passports and tickets to the United States, Aziz has a fake security agent to check out our tickets and passports. He then signals to armed guards. The only real things about them are their guns. They then take us to a waiting room when they call my client into an interrogation room for questioning. They then say they are arresting my rich friend. A trumped-up charge. Kidnapping sometimes. They go on and on about how brutal prison is in Liberia. That is the only time they are telling the truth."
Margaux turned toward him. "Gary, just after they get him real scared, one of the interrogators then suggests that they can work something out if our victim would leave Liberia quietly--for a price. That is, after he agrees to pay a large price. If he is really wealthy, it can amount to anything from a hundred thousand dollars to a quarter million. My client then leaves with his tail between his legs. When he comes out of the interrogation room, he will not find me. They then tell him that he's leaving without me."
"So if they have big bank accounts, you can try to make your clients even happier?"
"Yes, Gary, I have to tell you this. To be convincing, I have to sleep with those men. About three of every five men who come to Liberia to see me."
