Secret Promises

Chapter sixteen:

Their Walk Back To The Car From The Taco Bar

*Katelyn looks up at the stars*

Katelyn: Can we stop for a minute and just lay somewhere and look up at the stars?

*Travis turns to see her head looking up at the stars. A little confused at her request he gestures to a patch of grass a few feet in front of them*

Travis: Is right here a good spot?

Katelyn: It's perfect

*Katelyn lays down on the patch of grass and continues to look up at the stars, Travis now laying beside her*

Katelyn: Travis. We aren't dating...you know this, right?

*Travis, a little shocked with the words coming out of her mouth looks over at her. She's still looking up at the stars*

Travis: I-I know....

*Katelyn stops gazing at the stars and tilts her head to the side to meet Travis's gaze*

Katelyn: Then why do you treat me like I'm your girlfriend...and not like a regular friend?

Travis: Same reason why you kiss me back when I kiss you

*Katelyn starts to blush but quickly lashes out afterwards*

Katelyn: UGH, YOU IDIOT, THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING

*Travis sighs and stands up, slight irritation in his voice*

Travis: Are we even friends?

*Katelyn looks at Travis with an annoyed and confused look*

Katelyn: What are you talking about Travis, of course we are

*Travis looks her in the eyes, then back up at the stars*

Travis: Then why are you in a constant state of denial and hatred towards me? Why are you hiding your feelings all the time and pretending like you don't care?

Katelyn: ...

*Katelyn sits up next to Travis*

Katelyn: I-I guess I didn't realize I was being like that...I guess I'm just scared, scared to feel certain emotions...it causes me to freak out and panic...it's just the way I do things...I guess...I've just been afraid...I'm sorry Travis

*She looks down at the ground, feeling ashamed and embarrassed. A single tear falls from her eye.*

Travis: S-Sorry...I didn't mean to upset you...I was just curious...

Katelyn: ...Its okay Travis, your right...

Travis: R-Really?

Katelyn: ...Yeah...I'm your friend and I should be able to be honest with you...it's going to take a while to get used to...but I promise I will try my best to be honest around you with my emotions

*Travis hugs Katelyn*

Travis: Thanks Katelyn

*Katelyn smiles in his warm embrace*

Katelyn: Listen Travis...I know I act like I have no interest in you sometimes....but I do. I really like you, like...alot -she laughs-...It's just...I'm not sure where my comfort zone is when I'm around you.

*Travis grabs her hand*

Travis: I think I can help with that

*Travis pulls Katelyn closer to him*

*He smiles warmly*

Travis: Is this okay?

*She blushes*

Katelyn: Y-Yes...

Travis: How about this?

*He hugs her tightly*

Katelyn: ...Yeah

Travis: Okay...well...um...

*He leans into Katelyn, kissing her lightly on the lips*

Travis: H-How was that?

*Katelyn blushes*

Katelyn: I-I...I don't mind

Travis: REALLY???

*Katelyn laughs alittle*

Katelyn: Yeah...but If I wasn't being honest with you right now I wouldn't of said that...I would of just moved forward with what we were doing and acted like nothing ever happened, ...but since I am being honest now, yes...I like it when you kiss me...

Travis: YOU ARE BEING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW??? Like I know we kiss all the time and stuff, but I didn't think you actually liked it!!! So you're being serious right now???

Katelyn: Yes...?

*She smiles at Travis awkwardly*

Travis: Wow...It's like I'm talking to a completely different person

*Katelyn loses her smile*

Katelyn: I-Is that a bad thing?...

*Travis laughs*

Travis: NO!...I'VE DREAMED OF THIS DAY SINCE I MET YOU! I'm going to kiss you all the time, so be ready.

*Katelyn fakes a smile*

Katelyn: Oh..Okay

*Travis hugs her*

Travis: I LOVE YOU KATELYN!

*Katelyn looks down at the ground*

*She blushes*

Katelyn: Um...

*Travis realizes what he had just said, he's said it to her before, but at the moment it just felt so necessary and right to say*

Travis: AH! I'M SO SORRY KATELYN....IT JUST CAME OUT....AND...

Katelyn: I love you too
