Chapter one: Flight to despair

The plane flight was only two hours. Two hours before I would have to endure the bane of my life. Yes, the holiday house was beautiful beachfront property.
Yes, my four poster bed and silky duvet were the most comfortable things I had ever laid eyes on. And best of all I had a perfect balcony overlooking the lake, plus all summer to enjoy it.
But there was one disadvantage that weighed out all other benefits. Sharing that house with my ex, Damien Rosher.

I flipped open the flight menu as an overly happy voice came through the speakers. "Welcome to Tullumarine air, your flight to the Gold Coast will begin in just a moment. Please stay seated until we tell you otherwise and only take your seat belts off when the seatbelt sign on your left lights up green.."
I laid back on the white leather seat and plugged my headphones in. Scrolling down the music list on my phone I shuffled my Guns n Roses play list.
"Ooh oh oh sweet child of mine," the view out the window was spectacular, criss crossing farmland. I peered closer and managed to make out a miniature tractor and ten or so little black dots that could have been cows.
I had two seats to myself as per request and laid across them both as soon as the seatbelt sign turned green. A lady with bobbed blonde hair approached me with a trolley of food. "Anything from the trolley dear?" I swear I felt like it was the Hogwarts express.
"Yes please, I'll have the red rock deli honey soy chicken chips," they were my favourite, "a bottle of diet co- coke." I have an odd habit of saying cola and no one ever knows what I'm referring to. "Oh, and and an egg and lettuce sandwich." Got to add at least one semi-healthy snack.

I undid the lid on my diet coke as soon as she had left and took a long sip.
I then unwrapped the glad wrap from my sandwich and bit into it. Once my pint sized sandwich was finished I started trying to open my chips. But I couldn't! My hands were all greasy and kept slipping, plus the packet was sealed tighter than I'd ever seen.
"Rrrr!" A few eyes turned in the direction of my battle with the chip packet.
"Are you alright there?" A women in her 30s asked me.
"No I am not alright. Can't you see I'm in the middle of a battle to the death in which there is only one winner?" Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration. The women turned away, sorry that she asked.

Suddenly a loud popping sound echoed throughout the plane. Chip spilled all over me, the seat and the floor. A flight attendant ran up to me and stared at me with her mouth open in shock at the mess. I picked a chip off my lap and popped it into my mouth before smiling sheepishly, "they're very good."
