I didn't speak at dinner. I was extremely embarrassed and instead occupied myself with the lamb cutlets.
Damien had his headphones in and didn't seem to be uncomfortable.
Almost like he'd totally forgotten the previous incident. After dinner I took a walk down by the sand near the lake. It was cold, but it was beautiful.
I did a full circuit of the lake before laying down on the sand and letting the water rush over my bare feet.
The feeling of it gushing over my skin was cool and refreshing.
I looked out at the shimmering water, the moon glinting of its luminescent surface."So mum I hope your fairing well and have met grandmama. I am back at the holiday house by the lake. I will make pasta bake tomorrow, your favourite. I still make it just like you did. I have to go now, sleep well." I blew a kiss into the still night air. As I trekked back up the sand bank to the house I picked up my discarded sandals.
I loved the feeling of the sand grains between my toes.Damien was in his room so I could spare the embarrassment of having to talk to him. I made my way up the stairs into the en suit and quickly undressed. I then had a shower and pulled on a night dress. I laid in bed listening to the calming sound of waves crashing against the sand that always sent me drifting off....
At about four AM I woke and couldn't get back to sleep. I silently hopped out of bed onto the polished dark wood floor. Trekking down stairs I poured myself a glass of cold water and sat down on one of the spinning chairs at the kitchen bench. Outside the sky was still dark but showing signs of light peeking at the edges. The silence of being alone here was never lonely, but calming. So I sat there alone listening to the beautiful night sounds. Or so I thought.
