Annoying Her Into Waking Up

Aiden’s POV

Raven was slowly and surely dying right before my eyes and there was nothing that I could do, her skin had no colour in it at all, almost every single one of her bones was showing. Julia, the pact doctor, said that until we have figured out what poison the bullet was covered in then Raven was unlikely to survive for much longer and that there was nothing else that she could do.

As the hours tick by and she was fading away more my heart broke. After the first day I started to wonder how much more my heart could take before it broke completely and then the second day came and went then the third and the fourth and I knew that I couldn't live without her. As long as she needed my help I would bend backwards to get what she needed. I would lay down my life for her without a second thought.

*Flashback*

Drake sprinted into the room and told us that Raven was awake; it was the best moment in my life. My heart was beating out of control. I was tripping over my feet to try and get to her, to hear her voice again, to see her magnificent eyes but when shoved into her room the last thing I ever expected happened. At the exact moment that I entered her room there was a long beep from the monitors connected to her signalling that her heart had stopped beating.

It was like my world was crumbling around me, I fell to my knees as the most excruciating pain that I had ever felt enfolded over my heart making it hard for me to breathe. As blacks spots started to cloud my vision I felt hands on my back gently lowering me the rest of the way onto the cold hard ground.

*End of Flashback*

Just thinking about that day I could feel the dull throbbing around my heart. I softly rubbed my chest to try and ease the pain. Drake and I were currently in our basement which we recently transformed into our study, so that there would be fewer interruptions while we tried to figure out how we could help Raven.

I pushed wooden desks along one of the walls; each desk has a computer on top of it. The computers stay on all of the time, whether they are doing searches to figure out what the poison is or trying to find another specialist that might be able to supply us with more information on this mysterious poison that is coursing through Raven’s veins. On the other side of the room we have set up a mini lab that we use to compare the Raven’s poison with multiple others.

“Drake, do you have any new information?” I inquired for what seemed like the umpteenth time that hour.

“The only way that I will be able to get new information is if you actually let me work on finding the information. Why don’t you make yourself useful and look as well or you can go upstairs and annoy someone else?” Drake grumbled at me before going back to his work.

“But how will me going upstairs and annoying someone else help Raven in any way?”

“Do you really have to ask that?” Drake turned around and gave me a sceptical look.

“Fine! I will go upstairs.” I muttered “Are you most absolutely sure that you don’t need me here to help you find or go through any information?”

“Aiden! Listen to me very carefully. I do not need your help, right now. You are only distracting me and stopping me from working with all of these questions you are asking! Go and do something useful like annoying Raven into waking up!” He ended his little rant in a shout.

“Finally...” Drake muttered once I had marched up the stairs and out the door, slamming it shut behind me.

I decide that I was going to spend some quality time with Raven and see if I could, as Drake put it, “annoy” her into waking up. Nearing her door I immediately noticed an unfamiliar scent, which had all of my senses alert and ready for attack, considering I knew every scent of those in my brother’s pack and those allowed into this house. I flattened myself against the wall and at a snail's pace progressed closer and closer toward her door, making sure that I didn't create a single sound. I gently pushed open her bedroom door and entered the room. I looked around the room but not one thing was out of place. I sniffed the air but the unfamiliar had disappeared as if it was never there in the first place. Even though nothing seemed to be wrong I still could shake this fretful feeling inside of me.

I shook my head and slowly looked around the room again, just to make sure. Looking for anything out of place, anything that would give me a clue as to what was making me feel so threatened.

Nothing was out of place, that I could see, until I looked at Raven...
