"Niall, I don't think this is right" I breathed out, adjusting my black beanie as my ditz of a best friend searched through the pockets of his jeans for the key.

"Too late now" He chuckled lowly, quickly opening the door and stepping inside. Niall blindly searched for the lights before seconds later, they flickered on.

I was quick to snap at him after I stepped inside the cosy house with much hesitance, "Are you sure no one's here?"

"She shouldn't be. She told me she was going out tonight" He shrugged as if it was so casual to break into his fucking girlfriend's house.

"Oh god...why am I participating in this again?" I whimpered when one of the floorboards creaked underneath my weight. The walls of the hallways were empty, just like the other few rooms in the house, no picture frames or paintings. It was just...plain cream paint.

"Because you love me too much for me to do this alone" I shot him a glare to which he winced at and apologised quickly, "Sorry, I'll check downstairs, you go upstairs"

I rolled my eyes when he turned away without waiting for so much as a response. Taking a deep breath, I walked upstairs. There wasn't anything special, one bathroom and two bedrooms with a single vase of flowers on a table at the end of the hallway.

Walking inside the first bedroom, my eyes took in the room. I couldn't help but scrunch my nose up as I saw nothing but the unmade bed, a dresser and a closet. Seriously, how can someone live without any color?

I shook my head and shuffled through the drawers and I should've been, but I wasn't even surprised when I saw that they were empty, "What the actual fuck..."

Finding nothing in the first room, I moved towards the second one. I was sure this was the one Lauren was staying in. A small picture of her framed on the bedside table and the meagre clothes in the closet were the only evidence someone living here. I let out a huff, wondering where Niall even got crazy ideas like these from just when something inside the drawer of the bedside table caught my attention.

Picking up the two photos, my eyes narrowed into slits as anger coursed through my veins, "This little bitch..."

As my eyes landed on Harry's face, I couldn't help but swallow. This was the first time I had even looked at a picture of him since I packed all of his stuff and stashed it away. It was taken after Harry had taken me out to a dinner party and the second picture was one of Niall from the beach and I knew that these were taken from my room because I had the pictures lying around in my drawer.

I folded them carefully and put them inside my pocket before walking out, not finding anything else. When I walked downstairs, I spotted Niall in the kitchen, biting into a slice of pizza which rested in one hand while the other scrolled through his phone, "Niall!"

He jumped, perturbed and almost dropped both the pizza and phone from his hands. He scowled at me once noticing it wasn't anyone catching him, "Delaney, I almost dropped my pizza"

"But you're not worried about your phone almost dropping?" I dead panned, crossing my arms across my chest and raising both of my eyebrows.

"Don't be ridiculous, I can always buy a new one" he waved me off before finishing his food and stuffing his phone inside his pocket, "I didn't find anything. There's nothing here, like nothing at all. How can she live so plainly?"

I let out a shrug before slowly realising something, "Wait...you haven't been here before?" When he shook his head, I grew even more confused, "Then how did you get the key?"

He pursed his lips and hesitated before slowly muttering, "I may have...stole them from her"

I gaped at the blonde as he gave me a meek smile, "It's just a spare, she has the original one"

Niall had explained it as if it would make the fact he stole a key from his girlfriend to break into her house. I closed my eyes in distress and let out an exhale from my nose.

I was about to open my mouth when the ringing of metal clinking together and the creek of the door caught both of our attention. Niall froze as my eyes widened in panic, and the fact that we both wore black head to toe because Niall wanted to feel badass wouldn't help if we get caught.

"Shit, fuck...holy crap" Niall breathed out profanities before the echo of the heels hitting against the tiles snapped him from his astonishment.

He acted quickly, gripping my forearm and pulling me towards the nearest closet down the hall. I made out Lauren's physique entering the kitchen with a phone held against her ear through the small crack between the closet doors.

My heart beat profoundly in my chest, trying to labor out my breathing as I pressed my back against Niall's chest as if it would help shield me from Lauren who stood with her back to us.

"Yes, I got it. Don't worry about anything, I'm sure it won't be that hard. I can assure you that nothing will go wrong, I won't fail you" Lauren's low voice bounced across the lifeless walls, her head nodding absentmindedly before she abruptly hung up.

Her fingers furiously moved on the screen of her phone before she put it on speaker, the ringing of the bell dominating the quite silence in the house, "Oh shit"

I jumped as something vibrated against my lower back and I squeezed my eyes shut when I realised it was most likely Lauren calling Niall. I was thankful when she didn't hear us and hung up before swiftly walking away upstairs.

Niall let out a breath of air from his mouth, both of us impatiently waiting for any sounds except for our harsh breaths in the limited amount of space, "Okay, I think we might have enough time to quickly leave"

"I'm never listening to you again" I harshly whispered, before quietly opening the closet doors and stepping outside carefully, willing myself and Niall not to make any noise.

Niall's hand intertwined with mine as we slowly walked from the kitchen and to the connected living room, the front door coming to view. My heart jumped in my throat when I heard her groan of annoyance from upstairs, wondering how Niall could have fallen for this intimidating girl.

He slowly turned the doorknob before throwing himself and myself out without a second thought, the door closing behind us softly, "That was the most scariest experience in my life"

"You're telling me" I chuckled bitterly as we walked down the driveway where Lauren's black car was parked. Turning my head, I made out her silhouette through the thin material of the curtain. My eyes widened when she hovered from behind the curtain and simultaneously pushed Niall and myself behind the car just as the curtains were quickly parted and her dark eyes were scanning the front yard, "Niall...she's going to see us"

He tossed me a look of confusion along with a grunt from the impact, his eyes trailing up towards the window before they slowly widened tremendously, "She can't see us. We just need to wait until she leaves"

Blowing out a deep breath, I wondered how I had ended up in this mess.
