The lighting struck loud and hard, I jumped from my bed and looked out the window. The rain started falling; it hadn’t rained on our island for years! I watched as a group of boys known as the; Granters got off their motorcycles and looked up at the sky in amazement, this was a rare sight, they were never amazed. I heard footsteps sound from down the hall. My brother burst into my room and my parents followed.

“Jimmy! Get out of your sister’s room!” They said. I turned to face them.

“No it’s okay, it’s raining! Look!” I said. My mother and father looked out the window, smiles on their faces now.

“We can grow crops again!” My mother said. I smiled, everyone had been waiting for this for the longest time, and the island had been too dry and rough to grow stuff on.

“Lily! We can grow peas and pick them together!” Jimmy squealed. I hugged him.

“Yes, yes we can.” I answered; I looked out the window to see the leader of the Granters looking up at me. I looked back down at him, before my mother called to us from downstairs. I looked at my brother and smiled before we raced down the stairs. I entered the kitchen to see my mom holding sparking apple juice. A rare treat we got, we only had it when rain fell. I grabbed a glass, my parents and brother raised their glasses.

“Cheers!” we all called, the glasses clanged and we all gulped down the drink. I finished mine and went to the sink to rinse it out, I watched as the glass became clean, placing it down I said goodnight to my parents once again before I went back to bed. I climbed into my bed still thinking about how the Granter’s leader had looked up at me.

I woke at six the next morning, as early as I always did. I made my bed and went to the bathroom. I took off my night gown and hopped into the tub, I washed and came out. Combing my hair I thought of last night, the drought had come to an end. I brushed my teeth and spat out the water, I then returned to my room in a towel. I grabbed a skirt that ended just above my knees and had flowers on it. I then grabbed a white shirt and put that on along with a jean jacket. I put on sandals and finally headed outside. Jimmy was running through the sprinkler and my dad was planting some vegetables, as my mother was watering the trees. I smiled at them and headed to the back gate. I opened it smoothly and went down the steps to the beach. I gazed out at the sea. Sitting on the ground I closed my eyes. And then noises came, motorcycle noises. I listened hard.

“I’m telling you Ethan, I saw a beautiful girl in a window last night, and maybe I will find her.” A guy said over the noise.

“Yeah but you already have Crystal to fuck.” Another guy said. I ignored them until they got closer.

“Dude, shit that’s her.” The first guy said.

“No shit, the perfect Christian family girl, is the one you like. You’re fucked man, that’s Lily Omockta, her family is like perfect, and she’s a goody goody two shoes.” The second guy said. I still didn’t turn to look at them.
