Her smile stays small
As she walks the hallways
Her friends rush up to her
And it grows a little moreThen they run away
And a tear escapes her eye
It hurts so much to pretend
That she's a happy girlShe can't cry in front of them though
It would show she's just a weakling
So she presses her lips together
And marches onThey'd hug her and compliment her
But she wouldn't believe a word
She knew they were just being polite
They didn't mean anything they saidShe was never popular
Only had two or three friends
But to her, that was nothing
And she felt aloneThey race up to her each day
And she has the same smile
It passes her lips
But doesn't reach her eyesThey stay stone cold
Staring into the distance
As the sides of her mouth curl upwards
In a sad sort of wayOne friend realises
And asks what's wrong
She just shrugs and tells her
That's she fineThey don't know what's happened
Back at her house
Or how her parents treat her
When they're not around
