***CONNECTS WITH HOLD ON TO ME CHAPTER 5

I sat on my bed and stared at a bottle of Tylenol on my nightstand.

"Are you sure you're ok?" Katherine, one of my best friends, asked. "You've had a glazed over look all night."

"No," I whispered,"I'm fine."

"It's been a two full days. You don't seem ok." She pointed at herself. "I wouldn't be ok."

"I'm fine. I really am. I'm just processing. I'm sure that I'll have to deal with worse events with my job."

"Well, just come see me if you have any trouble, alright? I've got to go back to Chicago Med., but call me later tonight. My shift ends early."

"Ok. Thanks for keeping me company these last couple of days."

"No problem. I just can't imagine being taken by some random stranger." She walked to my front door. "Are you going back in to work today?"

"Yeah. We need to try and get some leads on their names."
------------------------------------

"So, what was it like?" Erin asked me as she was pouring a cup of coffee.

"It probably won't be the worst thing I experience, but it was terrifying."

"Terrifying how?"

"It was horrific to see these people who had the idea to do that. To kill innocent people over nothing. Usually murders have a motive. But these guys? Nothing."

"Hmm. Maybe they do. You just haven't found it yet."

"I don't know. These guys were just wanting to kill people for pleasure."

"I think-"

"Alright," Voight started as he walked out of his office. "Let's start on this case."

We both shrugged and went into the main area of the Intelligence Unit to sit at our desks.

"Antonio, Sydney, and Jay were taken as hostages last week. So far, all we have is a house description without an exact location, a few first names, and some possible security camera footage."

"Where could the house be?" Adam wondered aloud as he swiveled back and forth in his chair.

Jay moved to sit on top of his desk and folded his arms across his chest. "I don't know. It seemed to be out in the middle of nowhere."

"The ride in the ambulance felt like maybe twenty five minutes?" I estimated.

"It has to be outside of the city then." Adam walked up to the whiteboard and wrote down the little information we had.

"We rode in ambulances. These people had at least five others parked outside of the house. There has to be some kind of security camera evidence of them stealing the vehicles."

"We also need to check the street cameras at the time when they were taken," Kevin suggested.

I heard fingers fly across a keyboard followed by Mouse mumbling,"I'm on it."

"And let's run any license plate numbers that come up," Voight added.

"Gotcha-"

Suddenly, Jay jumped off of his desk in a panicked hurry and fumbled with his desk drawer.

"-Sir," Mouse finished in a low whisper.

"Jay?" I asked in confusion.

"Turn on the news, check your phones. I've got to go."

We just stared at him.

"No, no, no..." he repeated as he darted down the stairs.

"What in the hell is going on?" Antonio yelled after him.

I turned to Voight. "Let me catch up with him," I pleaded. "I can see what's up."

He nodded and I ran down to the lobby as fast as I possibly could. I practically ran through the door and sprinted after my partner.

"Jay!" I called.

He kept on walking to his car.

"Jay Halstead!"

He finally stopped and turned around. "Don't come with me."

"Where are you going?"

"It's all over the news. It got to the media before it came to us!" He put his arms behind his head.

"What did?" I started to get angry with him.

"Will. They took him."

"What?!"

"I don't know what to do, Sydney!"

I stepped closer to put my hand on his shoulder. "Hey, calm down. You won't solve this acting so brash. Just tell me what you know."

"The same people that took us captured my brother and two of his colleagues."

"Who were the others?"

"April Sexton and Katherine Stell."

"Katherine!" I cried.

"You know her?" He asked, his worry and anger turning to sadness.

"She's one of my best friends." I stared at the ground, trying to keep myself together. I couldn't imagine how Jay felt right now. I've never felt worry and panic to this extent before. His has to be a million times worse. "Tell me more about what happened."

"I don't really know much. The bastards came into Chicago Med. and somehow managed to take the three of them. We have to go back and find that house. Now."

"Jay..."

"What? Are you going to tell me that I need to calm down? That I need to wait and find out more information? That I need to have a plan? Well, I don't! I don't know what to do and this scares me. He's... he's the only family I have left." He leaned against his car and slumped down on the asphalt.

"We'll find him. We will."

"How do you know that? You saw what they would've done to us." He swallowed. "We knew what to do in that situation because it's a part of our job. They're just doctors who save other people's lives. They don't know how to save there own." He buried his face in his arms. "He's got to be scared, and I'm not there to protect him."

"Get in the car," I demanded.

He looked up at me with glossy eyes. "Huh?"

"Come on. Let's go. We don't have a lot of time to waste." I offered him my hand and pulled him to his feet.

"What are we going to do?"

For the first time, I felt like he was helpless. He glared at me with a terrified look in his eyes that vied for an answer. It was really debilitating.

"Just get in the car."

"Alright. Fine." He opened the door and slowly sat down into the passenger seat.

I turned the vehicle on and put it in drive.
