Chapter Four
Zayden's POV-
I'm messing with my hair in a mirror when I hear someone pounding up the stairs nearby, which scares the living shit out of me. I jump and almost knock over one of my mother's vases. She collects antique ones from exotic places my father takes her for their honeymoon. Then, she places them all over the pack house where I spend most of my time.
I catch the vase before it can hit the Fontenay Wine Barrel - Stave flooring. I sigh in relief and place it back on the table in front of the mirror just as my mother likes it. The last time I changed the position of all the vases, and even got rid of a few, she whipped me upside the head and forced me to order new ones for her.
"Alpha!" my friend, and head warrior, Boomer runs up to me.
"Boomer, you scared the bejeezus out of me. I almost broke one of my mom's vases!" I scowl at him.
He smirks at me. "Sorry, Zayden, but we just got word the western patrol. They've caught sight of the panthers again. One female followed by four males, one in the trees. Just like the last two times." he smiles wide, knowing my reaction.
Since I became the Alpha a few months ago, one month after my 18th birthday, I've been the one stuck with the pending issue of the werepanthers. My pack knew of the Korean's unknown knowledge of how their clans just suddenly appeared. I mean, Korean panthers, in general, were now rare on the peninsula, but werepanthers?
That was just unheard of! Humans had just become suited to the fact that werewolves and vampires really existed. Now they have werepanthers, people that can turn into large, dangerous cats that can sneak around my territory without setting off the border patrol unless seen with the naked eye.
So, my plan is to either find a way to convince the younger werepanthers who have been the ones hunting the past three times, to take me to their father. I know from research that the father is like the Alpha, except that he simply holds power over his children. Once the kids reach the age of 25, the sons leave home to find another werepanther or a human to mate with.
I have been careful to make sure none of the unmated girl and boys accidentally mate with one of them.
I smirk at him. "Prepare your brother, Ryland, and Nolan. Then you choose your top fifteen warriors and then have them prepare to corner the panthers. We know from past experience that they won't kill, but they will definitely put up a fight. Warn them to watch out for the one in the trees, the girl, and the one with blue eyes. Those three are the ones to look out for."
"Why?" Boomer asks. I forget sometimes that I am the one who observes them and not him.
"The blue eyes one and the girl seem close. But the one in the trees uses a bow and arrow. Since he's so high up and spends time in the trees when it's night time, you can't see him. He's also a quick shot and you never know where the shots come from unless you watch carefully." I explain as he and I walk down the stairs of the pack house, and out to the front.
"How much have you learned?" Boomer asks me, looking at me suspiciously.
I sigh in annoyance. "Just what I've told you. See, I have only seen them three times. That's the only times the girl has been out. Because of how badly the boys want to protect her, I can only assume that she's the youngest. Their sister, probably. But what I can also tell is that she's the most dangerous." I frown.
"Well, this is going to be hard, then. Maybe we can figure out how they hunt first, which I think should actually be easy."
"What do you mean?"
