Chapter Two
Leon's POV-
"The Alpha of the werewolf territory we live on is hunting us." my father sighs.
"What?!" My brothers all rise to their feet in anger before we immediately flock either towards my mother or E.V., reflex we have developed. When a female panther is in danger, her lover or family is entitled to protect her so that their species can still reproduce and grow.
"Now, boys," my mother soothes. "You know we haven't been the best company. Out spirit animals need to be out and hunt more than the wolf spirits within them. So we are taking away animal life. We are also making it seem like Alpha Granger cannot care for his pack well if werepanthers can waltz all over his territory like it's their own."
"But we don't!" E.V. sighs and then groans. I can understand why. Things have just settled down since we had a few werewolves sniffing around, but now, they're trying to hunt us down and move?! I don't bloody think so!
"Darling, please. Calm yourself." my mother scolds E.V. Mama has been doing her best to try and make E.V. more ladylike, but E.V. grew up with me, my twin, and the triplets. How could she be girly?
"Leon, son, would you please take your sister inside before coming back out? I need to talk to you alone." my father asks. I look down at an annoyed E.V. and give her a sad smile. I'd feel more comfortable with her out here with me, and she knows this. But she also knows that I will tell her everything our father tells me when he is done with me.
I hold out my hand and help E.V. rise from the chair she sat in after our parents said we were being hunted.
"Why do I always have to leave?! I am a part of this clan and family, too!" she growls, Clarice's bright tangerine eyes glowing instead of E.V.'s pretty dark brown eyes.
"I know you are, and to be honest I would probably be calmer if you were going to be out there with me." I stop walking when we reach her room.
"Then tell father you want me out there!" she tries.
"You know he'll look you in there himself," I say and motion to her bedroom.
"I know. Goodnight, Leon." she says and kisses my forehead, ruffles my hair, and then steps into her room. I chuckle and fix my hair.
E.V. honestly understands me better than my own twin. I don't know why but it's almost like she was supposed to be my twin and not Racer. I sigh, and walk past my brothers who are walking to their rooms, Racer to our room. I then walk back onto the porch. My mother isn't outside anymore. Maybe she went to the kitchen since she didn't pass me on the way to the bedrooms.
"Sit down, Leon." my father says quietly and sullenly.
"What's wrong, Pa?"
"I know you and E.V. are close. More like twins that you are to Marco. But I feel it would be best if you tell her this news rather than I."
"Pa, please, just get it over with."
"Very well." he nods. "You know how we all have different eye colors? Well, Zayden Granger is very curious about the panther with bright orange eyes."
"E.V." I say.
"Yes," my father confirms. "Zayden seems infatuated with her in the way that werewolf mates are infatuated with each other. I worry that our little girl may be his mate."
"What?!" I growl. It definitely doesn't sound live a growl though. Werewolves growl, us panthers, well, I guess the sound is more of a snarl.
"Leon, calm your self. Just listen, this may be a good thing. We live on the territory. If E.V. is his mate, we'll get to stay. Your mother is happy here. It's where she and I met, and like most panthers, where you meet is where you stay. If you and your brothers happen to not stay where you find your chosen lover, that's fine. But you'll probably feel the urge to stay where you met."
