Oh my Lordie. To tell the truth, this and names is the most overlooked concept in Warriors fanfictions. People will make their cats pink, purple, green, and anything in between. I hate it! This needs to stop!

Research some cat genetics! I, personally, have done it myself, and it makes life a lot easier! If you are looking for an easy and reliable way to make gene strings, go see YearlyAquariAce 's Warrior Cats Genetics Guide. Honestly, I learned what I know from that book and it is extremely helpful!

Also, make your cat's appearance unique. Avoid the cliché of "light silver tabby with blue eyes" and "white fluffy she-cat with blue eyes and a soft fluffy tail". Instead, do a brown tabby or a black cat. To be honest, your book will get many more reads this way. And the first option is genetically impossible!

Possible Pelt Colors

Possible Eye Colors
Amber
Blue (white or mostly white pelt only)
Copper

Hazel
Odd eyes (white or mostly white pelt only)

All these can vary in lightness and darkness, but these are the main eye colors I believe.

Remember: research, research, research!

This brings us to another topic: white marking/spotting. What is this? It's the amount of white fur on a cat.

So basically a cat can have white paws, white tail, white ears, white underbelly, white chest... It's endless really!

Here's a picture guide of white marking:

Some Simple Genetics Rules
•-- For a cat to have blue eyes, they must be white or mostly white. No exceptions. And another note: if a cat has blue eyes, they have a higher chance of being born blind or deaf. Please think about this before you give your cat blue eyes!
•-- A kittens coat and pattern can be received from either of its parents.
•-- All red cats will have some tabby markings. Whether or not a red can produce as a tabby will depend on whether it is a true tabby with a tabby parent or whether it is a red with ghost tabby markings and neither a tabby parent. A red tabby that is not a true tabby cannot produce a tabby.

Well, this is all I have to say! If you want more rules, look it up online.

Bye!

Research cat genetics and learn the different rules of what's going on under a cat's pelt. Then try to create a family of cats for practice.

A lot of thought and creativity of a Warriors fanfiction is mainly put into the name. However, many fans forget what inspired the name in the first place: The cats' appearance.

When kits are first named, they have no noticeable skills, personality, or even eye color. Their names depend solely on their fur color. And while names is a topic we will cover later, the big thing to notice here is to make it realistic. Cats do not have sparkly pelts people! - Skyoe

Also, not only fur color, but size as well. There's always something unique about a cat's size, not only in length, but say, the cat has long legs. Where did Spiderkit/leg get his name from? His legs. It might also have something to do with what their tail is like, or ears, or anything at all! Just something to note - daladae

Also, try to inspire yourself from actual cat breeds, just search up some and you're done! Choose the one that in your opinion, also considering the general attitude of that breed, fits most this or that character, also for background cats! And if you're unsure, then leave it for later, you can always go back and change it.
