Harold's neck was stiff from sleeping in the car for two days in a row. He'd waited up for her into the wee hours of the night, finally succumbing to sleep around four in the morning. His hair was matted, he felt dirty, and all of it made him angrier. He sipped cold coffee from a thermos he'd bought at the local grocery store. He was mid-yawn when he saw Darcie and the dog walking up the pavement to the cabin.

Alone.

He licked his lips and hunkered down, not wanting to blow his cover. As soon as she was a close enough distance from him, Harold lifted his head. He'd make his move once she got inside and disabled the alarm.

Harold watched as she unlocked the front door and disappeared within. He smiled as he started the car and pulled it directly up to the front door.

Show time, he thought maliciously as he stepped from the car and knocked on the door.

*~*~*

Darcie was closing the freezer door when the knock sounded, echoing throughout the small cabin. Her initial reaction was surprise, and she jumped. Wishbone woke up from his nap under the chair and looked toward the sound, eventually yapping slightly.

Darcie bent down to rub between his ears as she walked toward the front door. She glanced at the clock on her way out of the kitchen. It was just before 6. She thought perhaps Roger was just early. The idea of making love before dinner had Darcie smiling and running her fingers through her hair in an attempt to straighten it up quickly.

The following knock sounded harsh, impatient.

Darcie opened the door and froze as Harold pushed his way inside.
