            ~One Year Later~

I ran through the woods of Canada, the sounds still strange to me, even after a year. I galloped through the woods to the main river and drank some water. I’ve been wandering this forest for the past year, barely surviving. I had no human life. Most of the time, I was in my unicorn form.

“Hey, slow down there, boy,” someone said from across the river.

I looked up. It was a pretty girl who was talking to me. She didn’t look all that surprise that I’m a unicorn. I stopped drinking and morphed back into my human form. “Who are you?” I asked, wary. I looked a mess. My hair was untidy and my stubble had become quite obvious.

She smiled. “I know who you are. No, I don’t, but I know what you are,” she said quietly. I raised my eyebrows and she morphed into a unicorn before quickly morphing back. “I’m a Unique too. Lucy Unique,” she introduced. I jumped over to the other side of the river. “Jamie Unique, I said quietly, sticking out my hand.

She shook it and laughed. “You look horrible,” she said, laughing. I smiled, despite myself. “Look, my clan lives just a few miles up north. If you want, join us. Lone Uniques don’t survive very well. Just look at the state of you!” she said, morphing into her unicorn. I nodded and followed, galloping quickly behind her.

We came to a clearing and we pushed past. 3 other unicorns were snoozing away. On sensing a movement, they quickly awoke and morphed into their human forms. “Hi, I’m Jamie Unique,” I said. They raised their eyebrows suspiciously.

“Sorry, I’m really messed up lately,” I said quietly, morphing into my unicorn form and trotting away. I heard the sound of hooves behind me and I turned around. She morphed into her human form and in her hair was a shaver and a pair of scissors.

She threw me the shaver and the cream while she got to work on my hair. She gave me a short crew cut, and after the little ‘makeover’ I look like what I used to before all this happened. Before I met Gael and Gabriel.

“You look quite handsome actually,” she said, grinning. “Oh yeah?” I asked, bending forward so that our lips were centimeters apart. “Wow, trying to get fresh eh?” she asked, laughing. I pulled back. “Depends,” I said teasingly. I liked this girl. She was so cheerful and perky, and it reminded me of…Quinn.

Why did I always force myself to go there? It’s been a year, it’s time to forget about her. She most probably already forgot about you.

I followed Lucy back to her camp and we were properly introduced to her family. She had a brother, Ryan.

We had a great dinner that night, courtesy of Ryan, and we went to sleep under the stars.

            *Dream*

Quinn was in a house, a room. I was watching from outside her window. She was alone. “Quinn!” I called. She couldn’t hear me, or she didn’t want to respond. She was staring out her other window, and so I stepped carefully across and waved my hand in her face.

She was looking right past me, as though I wasn’t even there at all. Suddenly the door inside the room opened and a man stepped in. He was good looking, in his late twenties, I think. He wrapped his arms around her and I growled, expecting her to react. She turned around and kissed him.
