I must have looked shocked since the look on Zinaida's face changed to pure worry.  "Allison? Did I say something wrong?" she asked carefully with worry in her voice. I wasn't able to say anything, the only thing I could think about was that I had a brother. Why did no one tell me about him? It had been six months. Six months had been enough time to tell me. My parents didn't, Luke didn't, I had to hear this from a woman I had only known for fifteen minutes.

After 5 more minutes I finally looked up and opened my mouth.  "I have a brother?" Now it was Zinaida's time to be silent. This news came as a big surprise to her, as finding out I had a brother came to me. "Y-You didn't know?" I shook my head in response. "Why didn't anyone tell you about Brandon, why didn't your parents tell you about him?"

Brandon, his name was Brandon. A feeling of sadness came over me when realizing they wanted to keep me in the dark about having a brother.

"Can you tell me about him? About Brandon." I needed to know more about him. "Allison, I don't know. I feel like you have to talk to your family about this. It's not my place to tell you about him." You could see in her eyes she found it hard to tell me this. Why, I don't know but there must be a good reason for not telling me. I nodded and looked at my hands, they were sweaty from all the new information I got thrown at me.

"Will you come with me when I confront my parents about this?" I blurted out without thinking. If I was going to confront my parents with this I couldn't do it alone, I needed someone to back me up. She nodded.

My parents lived out of town, in the country side so it took an hour to drive there. Slowly I drove up to my parents farmhouse. "Well, here we are." I softly said while the car came to a still stand. "You sure you want to do this now? Don't you want to think about it for a day or two and calm down a bit." I knew she said this for my own good, but I wanted to know now, I needed to know now.

"No, let's go." Without thinking any more I opened the door and stepped out. Without waiting for Zinaida I slowly began walking to the front door. Behind me I heard her slamming the car door shut and following me. I took a deep breath before I rang the doorbell.

"Coming! Give me a moment!" I heard my mom yell. I'm sure she was in the kitchen baking a cake or something, she told me that's what she likes to do. After a few minutes the door opened and I saw my mom looking at me with a surprised yet happy look on her face.

"Allison, honey, what are you doing here?" her smile disappeared when she saw Zinaida standing behind me. "And what is she doing here?" Her voice was filled with disgust. I frowned and looked from Zinaide, who was standing behind me with an uncomfortable look on her face, to my mother.

"She is here because she told me the truth and didn't keep information about my life hidden." Anger had taken over me and I looked at my mother with an ice cold look in my eyes.

My mother immediately knew what I was talking about and opened the door more widely so we could come in. Without saying another word I walked in and went to the living room. "Please Allison, sit down." My mother said while she herself went to sit down, Zinaida followed her example. "I don't want to sit down. I want to know why didn't tell me I have a brother." I looked her right in the eye and crossed my arms.

A sigh left her mouth while she looked away. "Your brother, Brandon. He isn't part of our family anymore, he left when you were in college and made it clear not to go looking for him. That's why we decided it would be easier to just not tell you about him, instead of telling you the whole story." I couldn't believe what I just heard.

"So you just let him go, let him walk away." my voice was filled with disgust. How could they give up on their own son.

"You have no idea what kind of kid Brandon was Allison! He was nothing but trouble." "How do you mean he was trouble?" I needed more then just this half ass explanation. "He.. Even when he was little he got into fights, he claimed it was always to protect you. But you didn't do anything wrong, everyone loved you, so I knew he was lying. He was and always had been a trouble maker." She looked down, and you could see the hurt on her face. Maybe letting him go really did hurt her? "Then when he got older he would disappear for weeks, at times even months at a time. We all knew it was because of his drug problem, when he did came back it was because he relapsed and needed our help to get back on track. We couldn't handle it anymore, we did all we could to save him. So when he decided to go away and didn't came back, we didn't go looking for him. It got to a point where it was too much for us."

Suddenly Zinaida jumped up out her seat. "You are lying! Brandon didn't have a drug problem! He was troubled yes, but that was because you wanted him to be someone he was not! You rui-"

"You have no right to say anything about this matter! Brandon only got worse when he got to know you!" Now it was my mother who was yelling. What was going on here, why do these two hate each other so much.

I have no idea who I'm suppose to believe. The woman I had just met but who has told me more about my past then my parents did in 6 months. Or my parents who refused to tell me some of the most important things about my past life. The decision was made rather quickly.

"I heard enough. Zinaida we're leaving." my mother looked at me with a face full of surprise. "So you're going to believe that woman over your own mother?" she asked. I stopped right before I was about to step out of the door. "This woman has told me more about myself in 2 hours then you did in 6 months."

With that, I left my mother and walked out.

Hey guys! What do you think will be the real reason Allison's brother left? Make a guess in the comments :)
